Dear Sophie, My new favorite thing is to watch you color, or to hear you explain your drawings, or even to thumb through them after you leave a stack near my bed. Ella has always liked coloring books and writing stories, but I don't think anybody loves copy paper as much as you do. I can almost always find you with a crayon box stuffed under your arm and you love to ask us to spell things or to write things down for you to trace and copy. You have such a vivid imagination when you tell us the stories behind your drawings and the color and composition is always so beautiful! I am so hopeful that this isn't a passing phase. Let's plan to keep making beautiful things together. Deal? ...

BIG girl and BIG school
photo from Sophie's birthday celebration at the big BK This girl. I feel like she's getting the spotlight on the blog a little bit right now, but I have to remind myself it's seasonal. Ella gets in a mood where she doesn't want her picture made or she's too embarrassed by something to share it publicly so we go through a dry spell. Then all of a sudden it's dance season and she's posing all over the place. Since this little nugget had a birthday party last month and is crossing off milestones left and right, she's sort of taken over for a bit. I wish I could bottle her up and share this slice of her life with you all. I feel like part of her spark and spunk is lost in translation and I want you all to know just how sweet and funny she is in real life. Videos don't do her justice -- her ...
It’s FINALLY Fall
Fall seems to take forever to arrive in Alabama, but it is slowly making itself known around here. When our friends were in town a few weeks ago, we took all of our girls to the local pumpkin patch on Saturday afternoon. It was hot, but that just meant we had the place to ourselves and boy did we enjoy it! First up was the corn maze. I'm pretty sure the "exit" that we used was just a path between rows of corn. These girls were leading us around in circles, so we made a mad dash for freedom when we spotted it. My girls both wanted to take a horse ride and their reactions couldn't be any different. Sophie was grinning ear to ear from the very beginning and waved to me as she rode off into the sunset. Ella, on the other hand, was a nervous wreck! She was very concerned about me ...
Homecoming
Homecoming in our tiny little town is always such fun. People share photos from high-school on Facebook all week. The marquees on the schools boast of activities. Our yard is full of cars every day because there is something going on at the high-school. The kids in our family always want to ride in the parade and I never get to see it. I don't get to take many Fridays off from work that aren't vacation or holiday related, but this year I decided to spend the day at home with my family. I somehow convinced Taz to bow out of the parade and watch downtown with me. After dropping Ella off at the parade line up, we walked the few blocks downtown from our house. In case you haven't figured it out yet, we live in a TINY town. This is downtown. We have exactly one traffic light, a mom and pop ...
My Two Ballerinas
It's hard to wrap my mind around the fact that Ella has just started her fifth year of dance. What's even harder to believe is that she was ever this tiny or that Sophie is old enough to dance herself?! In honor of "Throwback Thursday" I couldn't resist sharing a comparison of my girls on their very first day of ballet! Ella, August 2009 // Sophie, August 2013 And just for good measure, here are a few more pictures from Sophie's first day that I love. She is such a sassafras! ...

My Little Thief
People ask us all the time why we call her Taz. Sometimes they seem a little offended on her behalf that we would do such a thing. Just look at her face. Can't you see it? That little sparkle in her eye. The hint of mischief in her smile. The wheels are always turning and you can tell she's just looking for something to get herself into. We don't have to discipline her often. Beyond taking out every single toy she owns at once and running around with the cat by her neck, she doesn't get into much trouble. She minds well enough for three years old, she is perpetually happy, sleeps well and is fiercely independent. We've noticed over the last several weeks, however, that she's a thief. In the beginning I would have said she was a hoarder. Every purse and bag or anything that has space to ...
