Let me preface this post by saying that it never snows in Alabama. We might get a dusting or two during a season, or an ice storm that shuts down transportation, but we never get anything measureable to play in. Twice in my life can I remember enough to build a snowman and my girls have never seen a snowfall in their life -- our flurries almost always happen overnight. Friday was a bit of an anomaly. We knew to expect some flurries, but I didn't expect for school to close, nor did I have any plans to stay at home. When I woke up at 5 o'clock (to watch Call the Midwife), there wasn't a flake to be seen. At 6 o'clock when I stood up to refill my coffee cup, the ground was almost completely covered and the flurries were falling so furiously, that you could barely see the ...
snow
the cold never bothered me anyway.
I love summer as much as the next girl. I love sandals and sunshine and floppy hats. But if it's going to be 30* and beautiful outside every day this week, I'd just assume it look like this: These photographs were all taken on January 30th, while Josh was in Denver and we were camping out at Gran & Poppy's. Snowpocalypse 2014
Let me tell you a story. Sometime during the winter last year, it snowed. There wasn't much to speak of in our sleepy little town, but there was a more significant amount at my office. I opted to drive across town for gas and an attempt at a different on ramp. Big mistake. It took me nearly two hours to cover twenty blocks and there was an almost-altercation at the gas station. Cell service was spotty and google maps was zero help. Josh ending up navigating me home over the phone and it was an almost 5 hour commute. I vowed that day that I would NEVER commute when there was a chance of snow, no matter ...
Snow on the ground…
I learned my lesson the last time they said it was going to snow in Alabama... I did not tell Ella that there was even a chance. I got her up and dressed for Valentine's Day, packed treats for her friends and sent her off to school. Lucky me, our offices were closing at noon so I left a minute early, grabbed lunch and picked up a VERY excited little girl. She couldn't believe that I'd kept the snow a secret. I couldn't believe the forecasters actually got it right. This is what we saw when we pulled in the drive (please ignore the fact that our CHRISTMAS wreaths are still hanging... I'm a procrastinator these days). We passed a big, pretty house on the way and I commented on how pretty in looked in the snow and Ella said, "Just wait until we get home, mama. Our house is gonna be ...
