Last night, it stormed a lot and our power went out for a really long time. The wind blew, the rain fell, a loropetalum was uprooted, branches fell, lightning struck, our porch pillows blew around in the yard and K's car got hit by a tree. We lit some candles and lanterns, read a few books, stayed up late with K and Cory and got really silly! ...

Happy Accident?
Remember in my craftroom post I said I wanted to paint a table green? Well, I changed my mind. Sort of. Instead of that table, I'm painting a few accent pieces in the bathroom. I'm not sure if I'm in love with the color yet, but it still needs another coat of paint. In the meantime, I was stripping the first layer of crusty paint from this hardware and stopped for the night. I can't decide if I should proceed to the original brass finish or stop now. The photo doesn't quite do them justice... they look chippy and shabby chic and I kind of dig them. ...
The Best & The Worst
This was the best part of our day. Seeing these girls snuggle in the mornings warms my heart. THIS, was the worst; having our ancient washing machine (note the harvest gold?) finally give up the ghost during our final load of laundry for the weekend. Then having the pleasure of ringing water out of the entire load and dipping 8 gallons of water out of the basin since it refuses to drain. It looks like I'll be doing a little appliance shopping this week. Anybody getting rid of a nice washer & dryer? ...
Saturday’s List
1. We worked in the yard. 2. Went to Hanna's and bought nineteen shrubs to plant out front. 3. Watched my hunky husband dig nineteen holes, with lots of toddler and canine assistance. 4. Bought a sprinkler to occupy the princess. 5. She called it a splishy-splash. 6. Yes, we coordinate footwear and hair accessories with the bathingsuit. Who doesn't? 7. We finally got them all in the ground. Don't they look great? They should grow to be 4-5 feet at maturity and give us a nice little privacy hedge between our yard and the street. 8. We went swimming to cool off and watched Beemer chase tennis balls in the water. 9. Grilled out hamburgers and made home fries at Kamin & Cory's. 10. Remembered why knife safety is so important (Yes, I'm typing with 9 ...
Keeping It Real
I know I've been saying this a lot lately, but I'm really sorry for the lack of posts. There might not even be anybody that cares, but I feel guilty anyway! Even though in some ways I'm getting used to having a traveling husband, parts of it seem a little harder these days. Ella is such a sweet girl and so well behaved. My job hasn't changed. The dog is a little higher maintenance, but nothing out of the ordinary. Suddenly, I'm a little overwhelmed with housework and house projects, bills are harder to pay, dishes are harder to wash and crafts are harder to accomplish. I want to share a picture with you and I don't want you to panic; it isn't always this way. This is what my dining room looks like right now. You know this isn't normally the way my house looks because I posted ...
What’s for Dinner?
Our block of gold (I mean Disney Photo CD) finally arrived this week, so I'm sharing two of our favorites. You might have seen similar photographs from our vacation, but these are the pricier "professional" photos! They have nothing to do with the remainder of this post, but my camera battery is finally charging and I really hate to post without photographs! On tap are a few before and after projects that I'm working on (but that might not be ready to share until early next week), Friday's home office post and a few posts about the outside of our house. Josh & I have declared this the year of the house! Remember all that talk about home remodel and refinance? Well, we've finally got a game plan together and hope to get started really soon. Like Saturday. First on the list is some ...
Missing you
I'm really missing this girl right now. When I went to pick her up this afternoon she was crying because she wanted to go to church with Garan. Luckily, I bought her a cute dress and sandals at Target today. I fed and dressed her while Garan and Poppy got ready. It was really fine because I stayed up much too late on Monday watching Jon & Kate fall apart and last night I was up late painting. I came home, finished up a design job, taught myself how to invoice using PayPal, cleaned up a bit and did some laundry. Then she called me from the car. "Can I stay with Garan tonight? There are blue 'jamas at Garan's. I don't want to come home." How can I resist an otherwise quiet evening alone? Then I asked if she would miss me. She said, "No, and I don't want to come home yet." Ouch. ...
Ali-U Are So Much Fun
My first year of college I met Ali. It has been eleven years since we moved into the dorm with two other girls we couldn't have had less in common with. We didn't know each other before school started and that made it so exciting. We had a four bedroom, two bath dorm room with a decent sized living area. Of course, Ali and I were on opposite sides of the suite, but that didn't stop us from spending every waking minute together. Of our other two girls, one spent 23 of every 24 hours in her room and the other spent 23 of every 24 hours asleep. We had lots of time to ourselves and drove the other two crazy. If you know me IRL then you know I'm loud and I never shut up. Well, so is Ali. One of my favorite memories is that although our doors were 20 feet from one another we would call each ...
