This is where I used to blog. In my "Muted Gold" dining room. I chose this color when we bought our house because I thought it was yellow. By happy accident, it turned out to be a spicy orange that I loved. Six years ago. We haven't changed anything about our living and dining rooms since then with the exception of rearranging some furniture and adding new rugs last year. It was time for a change. While I'm nowhere close to being ready to share the rooms, I thought I'd share a sneak peek and tell you what we did to this one little spot. Before, our computer was on an antique sewing machine base topped with a rectangle of glass. We wall-mounted a shelving unit and stashed all of our techy stuff and called it a day. It was okay, but very cluttered and I hated not having a definitive ...

It’s Nursery Day
For those of you who visit us often, you've seen photos of the girls' rooms numerous times. Today, Kelly is hosting "Show Us Your Room: Nursery/Children's Rooms Edition" and I'm joining in! I loved seeing everyone's rooms last summer and can't wait to see all of the new rooms linking up to this blog party. Click here to visit other beautiful nurseries and little bitty rooms. First, an introduction. These are my two pretty girls - Ella is four and Sophie is six months old. Our daddy is a bit overwhelmed with the estrogen and excessive pink around our house these days, but we sure are enjoying every little bit! Sophie and Ella have rooms that are connected, so we have decorated them in coordinating color schemes. It's so sweet because when the door is opened between them, it's like ...
In Love with my Orange Door
Have I mentioned that I painted our front door? When Kamin decided several months ago to have her fall/Christmas photography mini-sessions at my house, I knew a little "spring" cleaning was in order. Since Beemer regularly claws the front door when she wants to come inside, I knew we would need a fresh coat of paint. The existing door was a pretty chocolate brown and it looked pretty good with the new roof. I still couldn't help but dream of a bright door since everything else about our house is neutral. To say that Josh was disappointed with my selection is putting it mildly. He is thoroughly unimpressed with the orange door and wants me to repaint it. Today. He suggested a bright red, but I feel like everybody has a red door. I've suggested lime green and aquamarine, but so far I've ...
Remember that Upheaval?
Several of you have asked how the construction at our house is going. While it is far from finished, we are making major progress. We've been talking about doing it for months and had an insurance adjuster out a few weeks ago to look at some damage and low and behold, they're paying for the majority of our work. It was such a nice surprise, but it kind of kicked things into high gear. As in, they started on Monday and K had a photo shoot on Saturday and things either had to be finished or REALLY clean. While we were here just a week ago, today things are looking like this. As you can see, not only are we roofless on the backside of our house, but there are piles of materials everywhere. This portion of the house was poorly reconstructed by the previous owners and it never properly ...
Rock House Christmas
I'm finally here, all decorated for Christmas and breathing a sigh of relief. I had planned to post on one room each day leading up to the home tour, but didn't get it all done in time. I know I've said this numerous times in the last month, but I wasn't prepared for how this pregnancy would affect my energy levels and change the way I planned for Christmas. What I normally would accomplish in one weekend has taken two weeks and it greatly scaled back. If you are here from The Nester, thanks for coming and I hope you enjoy the tour! For the outside, I don't usually use lights. My house is old and there are barely any original interior outlets, much less outdoor ones. Rigging up electricity for the porch is sometimes a dangerous feat! Instead, I usually hang wreaths on each of the ...
The Rock House
This is the rock house; built in 1923 by the postmaster general. It is said, that he picked up field stones each day on his mail route until he had enough to cover the house. True or not, it is a lot of rocks! When we bought the house there were boxwood hedges across the front that were so high you couldn't see out the "windows" on the porch. We pulled them up and replaced them with little loropetalum. Much to our joy, they grew really fast and we love the pink blooms we get throughout the year. The porch is one of our favorite places to spend time. Unfortunately, our house faces the local high school and we have a lovely view of the backside of the stadium. We've recently planted 19 new loropetalum across the front of our property which will provide a privacy hedge. The school has ...
Goodnight, sweetheart.
Well, it's time to show you where we sleep. Yes, I know it isn't Friday. We spent the weekend together lovin' on our SD and the house was such a wreck that I couldn't bring myself to take pictures. He went back to work this morning and Ella & I finally cleaned up enough to share! So, welcome to our master bedroom. This "F" is on the door to our room and is the first thing you see. My sister bought it for me for Christmas on year. It is an antique and one of my favorite things. Okay, this is really my favorite thing in the room and I can say that since SD isn't here today. This is Beemer and she sleeps in this bed, too. I know... big dog, white sheets. What can I say? She keeps me company when Josh is traveling. You can almost always find her here at night. This is a ...
Work in Progress
So, it's almost Friday and we're celebrating with Show Us Where You Live at Kelly's. I debated on whether or not to participate this week because (a) we don't have a playroom/bonus room other than the craft room, which I shared a few weeks ago and (b) because my laundry room is a scary, scary place. BUT, in the spirit of transparency, I'm going to share and hope that you don't laugh too hard. Our laundry room is about 13 square feet 13 x 13, so it has lots of space. The problem is that it totally lacks in style. It has three doors - one onto the back porch, one into the dining room and one into our bedroom. Not only does it function as a laundry room and a place for the dog to hang out while we're at work, but it functions as our walk-in closet since we don't have even a shelf in our ...
