Dearest Sophie, How can it be that at this moment one year ago today, you were delivered into my arms? After months of prayer and petition, you were finally mine. I woke up at 3:30 in the morning and got ready for the early morning drive. I did a little housework, fixed my hair and did my makeup, took one last look at your sweet little nursery and headed out the door. Your daddy drove us the forty-five minutes into town. The hospital was dark and quiet at 5 o'clock in the morning and we had our pick of parking spaces. I found twenty dollars in the pocket of my maternity coat as we walked across the crosswalk. A good omen, perhaps. I got butterflies as we checked into labor and delivery and found myself undressing and fastening a hospital gown again. This time there was no uncertainty, no ...

Love Letters: Eleven Months
Sophie, How are you eleven months old? How are we on the heels of your very first birthday party? I am up to my ears in party planning materials, invitations, decorations and ideas. Every time I make a decision or a purchase, I ponder at how we got here. You are such a precious little girl and we have spent every moment of the last eleven months soaking you up and loving you as hard as we can. At eleven months, you weigh just over 18 pounds and are 30 inches long. You are still wearing a size 3 diaper and finally started to fill out your 9-12 months clothes. I unpacked bins of Ella's clothes over the weekend and found tons of things she never even wore. You are more than ready for spring and summer weather! You are still drinking about 22 ounces of formula every day, but I have bought ...
Love Letters: Ten Months
Oh, Sophie. I know I've said this before, but ten months might be my favorite. We are teetering along the line between baby and big girl. It's like best of both worlds. You are still so snuggly but I can still keep up with you. You will eat whatever we're having without complaint and you love to try new foods. You are fiercely independent and can navigate the house all by yourself, but you're not quite ready to walk and run and hide. You are still pretty small at just over 17 pounds, but boy are you tall! We laughed because you wore a cute 3-6 month top yesterday, but you had on 12 months leggings. We talk about how envious we'll all be when you are a skinny teenager with long legs. Despite your length, you still have chubby little feet and your toes curl up when you aren't wearing shoes. ...
Love Letters: Nine Months
Seriously, how can you be nine months old already? Sophie, I think you've really grown in the last month. More so than any other month so far. I can remember when I felt like Ella went from being a baby to a big girl and here we are again. When people ask how old you are, I cringe saying nine months. It sounds so big. I'm going to turn around and you'll be blowing out birthday candles, wearing ballet shoes, riding a bike. These are the things I'll remember most about nine months: Gone are the days of quiet Sophie who falls asleep without a whimper. When you have an opinion, you make yourself known. You still don't cry a lot and you aren't overly fussy, you just seem to have found your voice. You squeal with delight, you yell to get our attention, you mimic us when we make funny ...
Love Letters: Eight Months
Sophie-girl, You are eight months old... that is three quarters of a year! I should really start planning your birthday party soon. Even though I think you are growing up too fast and tell you all the time what a big girl you are, you are still my tiny girl. You are wearing Christmas pjs that your sister wore at 3 months old. Seriously. The only place on your entire body with fat is your yummy little baby thighs. They are rolly-polly and have nice little dips and dents. Just perfect for a mid-morning snack. See that little sparkle in your eye? That is mischief, pure and simple. You are so proud of yourself for being independent and you think it's funny to get into whatever you can. Just this week you have: stolen some Barbie bits from your sisters room; played with cell phones, remote ...
Love Letters: Seven Months
How is it possible that you are already seven months old? Somebody asked me how old you were at church this morning and the question kind of caught me by surprise. You are over halfway to your birthday; you are more big girl than baby. Some days I love your new found independence and other days it makes me want to cry. You still only weigh 15 pounds {Ella was 17 lbs 2 oz} and are 26 inches long {Ella was 27}. You're still in the 20th % for weight and 95th % for height! Dr. Darby was impressed with your motor skills this month and gave us the go ahead for table food. You aren't sure what you think about all that texture just yet, but you're slowly getting the hang of it. You love to eat. You've tried apples, bananas, pears, peaches, blueberries, raspberries, plums, carrots, squash, sweet ...
Love Letters: Six Months
Sweet Sophie, You are quite possibly the cutest little pumpkin that I've ever laid eyes on. I am daily impressed with how different you are from your sister, but how utterly amazing you both are. I'm guessing you can tell from the photo that you're going to be a pumpkin for Halloween; I just couldn't resist. I bought the cocoon and hat on etsy and it fits you so well. Look at how sweet those little toes are? They come right through the knit and curl around the yarn. I can't help but smile every time I look at your picture. You are finally a little roly poly that I can really get my hands on. I'm not quite sure how much you weigh these days, but I'm guessing it can't me much more than fourteen or fifteen pounds. You can still wear a size two diaper and are squeezing into your three months ...
Love Letters: Five Months
Dear Sophie, I know I say this every month, but I am amazed at how quickly you've grown! These months are speeding by like sand running through my fingers and all I want to do is clench my fist to keep you from getting any bigger. I think this is my favorite age so far - you are such a happy baby and are so much fun and more independent these days. You love to lay on your belly in the floor with your lamby and lovey and whatever other toys Ella piles up around you. Your back is strong and you crane your neck to look around and see what we're doing. You have been getting up on all fours and rocking back and forth a lot. Your daddy and I think you are on the verge of crawling... at five months old! You haven't shown any interest in sitting up and you're already scooting all over the place. ...
