Little Letters | November
Dear Friends, Today is the day we write letters! I write letters to my husband and to my children, letters to inanimate objects and even letters to ideas. When all I have to say can be contained in a few of sentences, they show up on the blog in letter form. I used to write letters every week and although I'm not sure why I ever stopped, I miss them! I'll be sharing a letter-filled post with you here, on the second Friday of every month, and I'm hoping that YOU will write a few letters of your own. They can be serious or silly, heartbreaking or hilarious. You can share one letter or one hundred, just be sure to send us coffee in exchange. Dear Election Season, Good riddance. I do not mean to ignore your importance, but I need a break from the rhetoric. I'm tired of reading opinion ...
Blogtember | A Letter on Belief
To my sunshine girls, There are so many words in this world: competing voices and things you won't always understand, people who will contradict what you know and believe, letters written on pages that will hurt your feelings. From the time you are old enough to listen, people are giving their opinions. They are offering unsolicited advice and passing judgment on your choices. Don't listen to them. Believe in yourself. Believe in Jesus. Believe in each other. Believe the words your mama whispered in your ear. Believe the wild stories your daddy spun under sheets. Believe the Bible stories and worship songs that filled your home. Believe the encouragement and correction from your teachers. Believe the smiles and high-fives of your closest friends. There will be days when you don't feel ...
A Birthday Letter
Dear Ella, In just a few days, you're going to be ten years old. Double digits. That's big time, Ella. How did it even happen? Your daddy and I talk all the time about how life is blazing by without any care for what we think. I swear we were just bringing you home from the hospital a few weeks ago. Your daddy and I prayed for you for so long. I know that other mommies wait longer and pray harder and we certainly didn't have it the worst, but we really wanted to be parents and we thought that day might not ever arrive. We had been waiting for almost eighteen months when I woke up feeling different. Your daddy was out of town, so I didn't tell him right away, but I raced to the doctor's office on my lunch break to confirm. Usually, it would have taken a few days to get the results back, ...
Letters
Remember way back in September when I wrote a letter to my sixteen year old self? What if we wrote to our future selves instead? I'm linking up with Kiki at In It's Time for the Circle Link Up. I saw Leah share her letter yesterday and I couldn't help but to write one of my very own. Be sure to visit them both and see what all they had to share with their future selves. Dear Future Kristin, It pains me to say this, but HOW are you forty-six? I remember when you turned twenty-six and thirty-six and both times you just felt old. I hope your forties are the best decade ever and that you finally feel comfortable in your skin and okay with aging and proud of all you've accomplished. No matter where you've found yourself, I bet you can't believe you've been alive that long either. This year ...
A Letter to Christmas
Dear Christmas, You are so, so sweet. Every year you come racing in and leave us in a cloud of excitement and twinkle lights and expectation. Every year we anticipate your arrival like little kids and are left sad and lonely when you make your way out. So many times this year I engaged strangers in conversation about Christmas and I left every conversation feeling like they weren't ready for you yet. There was a sense of dread about the impending holiday season and I can't even imagine what that must be like. We waited for you with bated breath. I will miss this view: our cozy (read: tiny) living room filled to the brim with fresh evergreen and glowing lights, every inch of floor and furniture piled high with Christmas gifts, family movies on heavy rotation and endless plates piled high ...
