It's hard to believe our trip to NYC was almost a year ago. It was after that weekend, we decided that taking a kid free trip involving an airplane and an empty hotel room was a yearly necessity. Although a football game doesn't really compare to 5 days in the Big Apple, we knew we wanted to go to the season opener in Arlington and what better way to celebrate the kick off of football season than a mini-vacay with your favorite person. I opted not to take my camera and instead enjoy having fun instead of trying to document it all, so we have plenty of iPhone snaps, but not a single actual photograph of us the entire week. We boarded a plane last Thursday afternoon and were in our Ft. Worth hotel room eating Dominoes delivery by midnight. I hate I didn't document my travel outfit (one of ...
Josh
Best Date Ever
I guess it's a given that your 10 year anniversary date should rock, right? After we got in bed on Saturday night, I looked at Josh and said "this was seriously the best 24 hours I've ever had". It started on Friday night. Josh was in Iowa all week for work (they acquired four new facilities and he was training staff and enjoying the corn fields in the mid-west). He told me on Sunday before we headed out for the airport that my gift was wrapped and ready and that he completely out-gifted me this year. Of course, that got my wheels turning and I asked him where he was hiding my gift! I had no intentions of looking for it (I love surprises too much), but it was fun to think about where it might be hidden. He assured me that I would NEVER find it. He was right. On Thursday afternoon he ...
Our Tenth Year
Ten years ago this summer, I was in a tiny house where no one lived. Spending every extra minute and spare dime making that house a home. Ten years ago yesterday, we pulled into my parents' driveway in a little red truck, giddy about 'tomorrow'. Ten years ago this morning, I woke up in my sister's bed for the last time. Ten years ago tonight, I married my very best friend. We might have been married for ten years, but we've been sharing life for almost sixteen. That's one hundred and ninety months of hand massages. Five thousand eight hundred and forty days of I love yous. Over one hundred and forty thousand hours since I've been right about anything. And I wouldn't trade one single second for anything else. basketball games / the wisdom teeth Valentine's Day / the escort / combat boots ...
Baseball
My girls love to be outside and they love sports. We all know this has nothing to do with me and everything to do with their daddy. This past Saturday was the alumni baseball game at our Alma Mater. It's a fundraiser for the current varsity team, which my brother-in-law helps to coach. They worked so hard to pull it off and we had a fabulous time at the ballpark. Not to mention, it's just across the street and makes for an awful easy commute! First up, we had to say hello to our daddy. He had just hit two out of the park in the Home Run Derby when we arrived. Sophie was pretty happy to talk with him through the fence. I just knew she would be a disaster at the park and into everything. I was surprised that she actually sat still the entire day (with only a few mishaps) and was MUCH ...
Date Night
Josh and I had been planning a date night for several days. The girls hung out with his parents for several hours and we had dinner at our favorite Italian restaurant, bought some new books at Books-a-Million and caught a movie... just the two of us. As much fun as we had, the dates that are my favorites are the spontaneous ones. Even if they are simple. Josh wrote me this note before the sermon in church last night. Who would turn down Mexican food with a cute boy? Not me. The girls went home with my parents for dinner and we had a nice quiet meal. Mostly we giggled at the Facebook comments the photo above was getting. Pretty much my favorite part of the evening was when he suggested we go out and run while we didn't have the girls. I'm usually running by myself, so it was fun to ...
my valentine.
1. How long have you and your significant other been together? We've actually been laughing about that recently. It is hard to believe, but this month marks 15 years since our first date. We are awfully close to the year when we can say we've been together longer than we've been apart! 2. How did you meet? I think I've shared this before, but we were actually in the same class in elementary school. Coming from a small town, you pretty much know everyone. It's hard to admit that I don't really remember Josh until my junior year of high-school. Apparently we were both in a 2nd/3rd grade split class, but other than comparing memories, we don't remember much of each other. I was friends with Josh's best friend in high school and the three of us began hanging out together. Our first date was a ...
the Family Circus
Last Saturday, just like the last weekend of every January, we loaded up and headed downtown for the circus. We are always lucky to get tickets from my in-laws for Christmas and it never disappoints. It's funny to me how we can go the entire year without mentioning it, but as Christmas nears every year Ella asks when it is and if we're going. Since Sophie is almost two (and still free!) we decided to take her along this year. I was certain that she would be entranced because of the animals and would sit completely still. Sometimes I have to remind myself that she is WILD. She did enjoy it a lot, especially when the elephants were in the ring, most of the small animal acts or when there was a parade with lots going on. She was less than impressed with the individual acts (trapeze, acrobats, ...
Yay, Alabama!
I thought maybe it was time for a blog post. You know, one that involves actual pictures taken with a camera and not a phone. Remember those? It isn't every day that SD {sweet daddy, for those of you just visiting} takes center stage. As you know, two weeks ago he was in New Orleans for the BCS National Championship game. He's been asking me for a week why I haven't posted his pictures yet, especially considering that I hounded him about taking a camera! I doubt I could have convinced him to write this post, but he did manage to supply lots of good text messages. I was afraid he would get bored with me quick sending him constant messages to see where he was and what he was doing, but we actually managed to talk for most of the night. Along with some pictures and a video here is how the ...
