I've honestly been saying no to everything fun for the last several weeks because we're knee deep in boxes and have had a house full of contractors at all times. It's been a good month, but it's been full and overwhelming and packed to the brim with to-dos and wishlists and shopping trips. When my sister asked me to tag along to the pumpkin patch on Saturday, I knew I needed to say no, but I'm so glad I didn't. We snuck away for a few hours and the packing tape was exactly where I left it when we returned. Thank goodness for sweet sisters and brother cousins and beautiful fall weather when we need it! We are still dying in ninety degree afternoons and praying for actual fall in Alabama, but Saturday morning was perfect. Sure, it was blazing hot by afternoon, but when you're at the farm ...

DIY | No Sew Unicorn Halloween Costume
Warning: Affiliate links appear in the following post. Although shopping the embedded links won’t cost you any additional dollars, it might contribute to an afternoon Starbucks run for me. Your support of my caffeine habit is always appreciated. It might still be September (for a few more hours, at least), but we are already in full fall mode at the Rock House and that means Halloween costumes! The girls were chatting about what they wanted to be on the way to school last week, so we decided to go ahead and decide on our costumes so we could share them with you a little early. I have to confess, Sophie was pretty peeved when Ella decided to be Taylor Swift and then I later vetoed a scary, blood-soaked vampire (what in the world?!), but all was right again in the world when we settled on ...
October Recap
October may have started out rough, but we packed lots of fun things in there, too. It is hard to believe how fast it all went by, so bear with me as we rewind a few weeks and share what we were up to while I was blogging non-stop about my Bible! Kamin & I decided to take the kids to Baker's Farm -- a local pumpkin patch -- on a morning when the guys were otherwise engaged. We figured we could let them run around for a few hours and burn off some energy, while we managed a few cute photos for my mom's Christmas card and then everyone would take a nice long nap. Wrong. Despite these adorable photos (most of which I stole from her), all three kids were terrible and I was pretty close to tears at one point. While searching for the perfect pumpkin (and carrying about 75 pounds of them out ...
A Halloween Recap
If you've been reading here for any amount of time, you might remember that we usually head to our church's annual Trunk or Treat to celebrate Halloween. Last year we partnered with another local church to celebrate, but this year we didn't host anything at all. There is a part of me that is so sad when established traditions screech to a halt, but this year we were able to squeeze our week with so many other fun things that we didn't have time to be sad. First up was "Tappy Halloween" at our dance studio. The competition teams don't participate, so I didn't get to watch Ella dance, but we did get to observe the little girls and have a special snack after class. Sophie was a mermaid for Halloween this year. We bought her costume over the summer at the beach and she has been so excited to ...
Happy Halloween!
Happy Halloween from these three darlings to yours! We have lots of fun planned for today -- it's book character day at school, we're "Trunk or Treating" at a local church and then headed to a Halloween party with some great friends. We're hoping your day is as spook-tacular as ours! ...
A Halloween Recap
Am I the only one who thinks having Halloween on a weeknight is an AWFUL idea?! And while we're talking about inconveniences, who said it could rain on an outdoor holiday? It would happen that I had a horrible day at work and nothing would cooperate - people, computers - you name it and it malfunctioned. We were planning to go to a local Trunk or Treat at 4:30 in the afternoon and it takes me an hour to commute. I sped out the door at 2:30 and managed to get my girlies all suited up in time to take a few photos before the rain came through. This girl. I swear that no pictures exist where she is just casually smiling at the camera. It is either a pout or a full-on, squinty, cheesy face. And this is one of the many reasons I love her to bits. She is so feisty and was in LOVE with her Izzy ...
Throwback Thursday | Halloween Edition
I was flipping back through some old Halloween photos and couldn't resist sharing our costumes from years past. I wish I had some pictures pre-blog, but those are probably on film (gasp!) and buried deep in a box somewhere. Instead, here are my favorite photos from the past five years. In 2008, Ella had just turned two and was Minnie Mouse! My mom made her costume and my sister bought her ears as a souvenir from Disney World over the summer. In 2009, she was three years old and was Fancy Nancy obsessed! We wore butterfly wings for a while, but mostly we were just fancy. I ordered her costume from etsy and the "accessories" we found around the house. 2010 was Sophie's first Halloween and Ella was four. We were a chicken and Olivia the Pig, respectively. The chicken costume was 97 ...
Pumpkin Patch
Yes, I know it's November the 14th. We're just a little over a week away from Thanksgiving. In the interest of full disclosure I think it's only right that we recap Halloween first. What do you say? We were kind of late to the Halloween celebration this year. I don't know what is up with 2011, but I feel behind on just about everything. By the time I start thinking about a holiday it's practically over and we haven't even enjoyed it. Halloween was nothing different. We DID go to the pumpkin patch... the day before the big day! We loaded up after church that Sunday afternoon and spent a few hours enjoying the beautiful day. We ended up with three pretty pumpkins and two whiny girls. What's better, right? First up, the corn maze! It didn't take us long to cut through the side of the ...
