And I mean that in more than one way. I've been struggling with what to do for our grand-daddies this week for Father's Day. We don't really spend money on those kinds of holidays, but it isn't as easy to create a quick craft as it was for Mother's Day. My brilliance kicked in on the drive home this afternoon and I decided we would bake yummy chocolate chip cookies and package them up for all of the men in our life. I got to Gran's to pick El up and you know what she said? "Me and Gran made cookies for Father's Day!" See what I mean? Like mother, like daughter. I sure hope Poppy likes cookies, 'cause he's getting another batch. Here's what we were up to... Finding the perfect recipe, Eating chocolate chips, Mixing it up, Being a helper, And scooping it ...

Jesus
Sunday morning we were sitting in the sanctuary before church and were talking about the people coming in. Ella asked about someone that she didn't recognize and said, "Why are they at our church?" I told her that they came to church because they loved Jesus, just like us. She responded with a typical question, "Where is Jesus?" As usual, I explained that he was in our hearts AND in heaven. She looked at me with a very serious face and said with much concern, "Did he die?" ...

Lights Out
Last night, it stormed a lot and our power went out for a really long time. The wind blew, the rain fell, a loropetalum was uprooted, branches fell, lightning struck, our porch pillows blew around in the yard and K's car got hit by a tree. We lit some candles and lanterns, read a few books, stayed up late with K and Cory and got really silly! ...
Good Day
Since Garan decided to spend the weekend at the beach, I had some "childcare issues" to iron out. Ella is spending Thursday night with Nana and spending Friday with her, but I needed a plan for Thursday. I decided to take advantage of this beautiful summer day and spend it with Ella. We had a good day. We painted a piece of furniture this morning, which you'll see later in Friday's post. We took a walk around the yard with Beemer. We went to Fred's and Dollar General and bought nothing but a Reese's Cup. We ate lunch at Burger King, wore a fancy crown and climbed the castle. We spent the afternoon at the pool soaking up the sun and playing in the splishy splash. We are tired. ...
Praying and Touring
Each year the youth/college choirs at my church go on a summer choir tour. It was one of my favorite things to do each summer during college and the opportunity to see our beautiful country and carry a message of love and grace was life changing. Josh and I had a chance to visit places together that we can't afford to do now that we have a young family and small business. We hiked the Grand Canyon, visited numerous national parks, stood on "a corner in Winslow, Arizona", sang the national anthem in several major league baseball parks and stood beneath Niagra Falls. Those memories are some of my fondest. This year, Par {the director} asked each student touring to fill out a questionnaire and members of our church were asked to "adopt" one of the students to pray for each morning and ...
My Tummy’s Growling!
After dinner one night this week, Ella told me she was still hungry. She had eaten a big meal, so I was skeptical. When she makes requests like that I usually offer fruit or yogurt and if she isn't really hungry she'll turn me down. Sometime later I gave her a bath and afterwards as I was drying her off she said (in a very stern and dramatic voice), "MOM! My tummy is growling and saying it wants some fruit." I turned her around and she was grinning from ear to ear. When I asked her to repeat herself she said, "My tummy is growling 'cause it's really hungry and it's saying 'give me some fruit in my belly!'". Yes ma'am. ...
Art In Motion
Here is the artist at work. Notice the concentration, the composition, the attention to detail. It's becoming obvious that my sole purpose for attending art school was so that the supplies would be readily available when this prodigy came along. ...
