I know I told you it was a one-post kind of week for me, but I hated not to share this adorable DIY costume before the weekend. It is altogether possible that we snapped photos of the finished costume on the way to school this morning and highly likely that we used makeup wipes to remove the lipstick in the carpool line. We are THAT family. When it comes to Halloween costumes, Ella always leans towards simple and comfortable. When she was younger, we often opted for a character driven birthday party that later birthed a Halloween costume. Now that she's older (ten, what?!), she prefers something a little less over-the-top. While Sophie tends to reflect on what she wants to be and I ultimately have to shove encourage her forward, Ella is pretty decisive and knows exactly what she wants! ...

DIY | No Sew Unicorn Halloween Costume
Warning: Affiliate links appear in the following post. Although shopping the embedded links won’t cost you any additional dollars, it might contribute to an afternoon Starbucks run for me. Your support of my caffeine habit is always appreciated. It might still be September (for a few more hours, at least), but we are already in full fall mode at the Rock House and that means Halloween costumes! The girls were chatting about what they wanted to be on the way to school last week, so we decided to go ahead and decide on our costumes so we could share them with you a little early. I have to confess, Sophie was pretty peeved when Ella decided to be Taylor Swift and then I later vetoed a scary, blood-soaked vampire (what in the world?!), but all was right again in the world when we settled on ...
DIY Dream Catcher Party Craft
Less than a week before Ella's birthday party, she told me that she thought we needed a craft. Normally, I would have had a moment of sheer panic, but since the party was already geared to be super low-key, I felt sure we could pull it together in the nick of time. I took to Pinterest and searched through tons of "summer camp" themed crafts, but these Kid Made DIY Dream Catchers were my absolute favorite! via ArtBar Blog I started by digging through my own stash of craft supplies and (fortunately) had most of the items we needed on hand. The berry baskets were left over from a previous birthday party, I had plenty of random ribbons and trims, I bought discounted Christmas gift tags at Target last year that I knew would be perfect, I had plenty of washi tape thanks to Bible Journaling and ...
DIY Concrete & Pipe Fitting Coffee Table
I've been meaning to share this post with you all summer and never managed to get around to it. I'm not sure what took me so long, since this pretty girl has been sitting in my living room since Mother's Day. For those of you who don't know, Josh poured concrete to put himself through college and eventually starting his own business when we were newlyweds (didn't I say all of this last week?). When the housing market took a nosedive, he got a great job in human resources and has been working from home ever since. Several months ago, he started reading about a concrete product he had never worked with before. It's reinforced with fiberglass particles, which makes it very strong and much lighter than conventional concrete. We've always know that if we ever get into our forever house, we ...
DIY Unicorn Horn Party Hats
I told you yesterday that Sophie asked months before her birthday for some special party hats. I don't know what it is about playing dress up on your birthday, but Sophie is a huge fan. Once she decided on unicorns and rainbows as her theme, I knew we had to figure out how to make all of our little party goers a special unicorn horn of their own. After a few Pinterest fails, we figured out exactly what worked best. Although not the greatest quality (my vlog skills need improvement), I'm including a video tutorial and supply list below. Now whip out your glue gun for these DIY Unicorn Horn Party Hats! Warning: Affiliate links appear below. Although shopping the embedded links won’t cost you any additional dollars, it might contribute to an amazing party for one of my little ones. Your ...
DIY Unicorn Party
It's been over a month since Sophie's sixth birthday party, but I can't stop thinking about it. It wasn't the most elaborate (or the most expensive) party we've ever thrown, but it was certainly one of the most fun. Her only request this year besides unicorns and rainbows, was to have her party at home. We celebrated her first birthday in our dining room, but every party since then has been at Gran's house or at a local venue. Since our house is on the market, she was worried this might be her last opportunity. After a few minor snafus, we reserved a bounce house for the weekend, spent a month working in the yard and invited all of our favorite people over to celebrate! Enter Sophie's DIY Unicorn Party. When I found this t-shirt (sources below) on the web, I knew it was perfect for ...
Last Minute Halloween Treats | Easy Spider Oreos
Affiliate links appear in the following post. Although shopping the embedded links won’t cost you any additional dollars, it might mean that I earn a small commission on any purchases made. Your support of this blog is always appreciated! As usual, I waited until the last minute to start thinking about what to make for the girls' friends at dance for their Halloween party tomorrow night. Sophie's first request was bat shaped cookies and I thought I had her convinced to just buy the Little Debbie brownies shaped like bats, but when Gran send us {this} super cute suggestion. It looked simple enough, but I decided to try using Double-Stuf Oreos since we can't bring peanut butter and I figured it would be easier than spreading each individual one. It turns out, this was one of the easiest ...
Kraft & Twine Advent Calendar
Affiliate links appear in the following post. Although shopping the embedded links won’t cost you any additional dollars, it might earn me a small commission on your purchase. Your support of this blog always appreciated! I've been saying for years that I was going to create an advent calendar for the girls in the days leading up to Christmas, but this is the first year I've actually made it happen. Not only do I think it's fun for them to have some little gifts to look forward to each day, but it is such a wonderful way to remind the girls of the reason we celebrate. Ella & I went shopping a few weekends ago and picked up clothespins, bakers twine and kraft paper lunch sacks. I snuck off to the dollar aisle and grabbed twenty-five days worth of tiny treats while she wasn't looking ...
