After several weeks of bragging on how well I was sleeping, stupid acid reflux reared its ugly head. For the last week or so, I've been waking up in a panic and can't go back to sleep. The first several days I really tried to stay in bed and at least rest, but this week I decided to just get up and be productive. On Monday, I was wide awake at 3:18 a.m. and decided to get up and get started with my day sometime around 3:45. I made coffee, did laundry, cleaned the kitchen, and wrote a few blog posts! I'm still really loving my mini bathroom makeover, although I hope to paint the walls black and all of the woodwork a different white, at some point in the future. The girls joke that you can see yourself from every angle, except when you're on the toilet (thank ...

When I was thinking about what day to share for my monthly Day in the Life post, I figured I would snap a few photos one of the days we were in Pensacola and it would do double duty -- day in the life and vacation recap. Since we had already been to the beach once this summer and I had taken a multitude of photos, I planned to rest and read a lot, leaving my camera alone for most of our trip. On Friday, I took zero photos, but I more than made up for it on Saturday and Sunday (accidentally). When I edited these earlier in the week there were 77?! I got it down to 45 before uploading them to WordPress, but I have no idea how many will wind up staying in the post, all said and done. Instead of getting a Daily Dime this month, you are getting a Daily Dose of Insanity. Forgive the ...

I'm a big fan of Day in the Life posts, especially considering how quickly our pace of life seems to take. It is always so fun to pick a random month and year and see what exactly we were up to. I know that our days will continue to change in the coming month, but this season of big girls is so much fun! Since last week was recital week, I probably picked the worst possible day to document (ahem, and only snapped nine photos), but as busy and stressful as it was, Ella had such a great day. 5:30 a.m. | Make sure Ella was awake and getting ready for the day. This was early for an eleven year old on a summer day, but she managed to pull it together. Meanwhile, Sophie was completely dressed and ready (and already eating breakfast!) for her VBS pickup... at 8:05?! 6:15 a.m. | Leave ...

Tuesdays are my absolute favorite day of the week. I get to work from home, which means fewer interruptions in the office and I can keep the laundry rolling. Bonus points for getting to hang out in the sunroom with Scoop all day! Most weeks, it looks the same: I try to get some blog work done before heading into the "office" and then I alternate between eating, reading, and working. These days have been especially kind to me during pregnancy because I can work weird hours and squeeze in a nap, when necessary! ...

Yesterday was the perfect snow day, even though it didn't really snow. The girls were thrilled for an extra day at home together and we took advantage of our still lingering Christmas decorations. Our coffee table was covered in art supplies for most of the day. We had cinnamon rolls for breakfast, chocolate milkshakes for lunch, and homemade chicken and dumplings for dinner. Today will probably look much like yesterday did. We do have white stuff on the ground, but it's mostly ice. It will keep us home again today, so I can't complain. We're planning to finally take our Christmas decorations down, have a Harry Potter movie marathon, and maybe do some laundry. Maybe. ...

Right before the holiday season begins, our church shares a series called At the Movies. Each Sunday, for four weeks, the pastor uses a popular movie to illustrate a redemptive message. Not only do the adults love it, but the kids' department follows the same formula. They always have movie characters in the lobby as we're checking in, so Sophie stopped by for a photo with Nemo. She artfully snubbed Iron Man and Anna (from Frozen) on the other side. Ella started coming into "big church" with us over the summer, so she is excited to enjoy grown up movies this year. Josh had a few errands to run after church, so we drove separately and I offered to take the girls to breakfast. Ella voted for Panera Bread and Sophie wanted iHop, so I was forced to be the tie-breaker. I headed for ...

Saturday was such a blessed reprieve from the craziness of the last month. I had planned to go into the office on Sunday, so I knew Saturday would be a mix of errands and laundry and playing catch up. Fortunately, my work project got moved around a bit and Saturday turned into a day of rest and playing a much more fun version of catch up. The kids spent the night with my parents in the camper on Friday night. They made s'mores and ate pizza and watched movies. That meant I got to sleep a little later and, fortunately, the furriest member of our family slept late, too. After drinking an entire pot of coffee all by myself, my mom and I ran to a local yard sale. I didn't buy anything, but she picked up some pretty towel hooks for the barn and then later a sweet friend delivered these ...

This should be called How to Throw a Golden Birthday Party in Ten Hours! Since Ella's party was a surprise, I couldn't do very much of the work ahead of time. Aside from ordering the cake (and a few paper products), picking up groceries earlier in the week, and stopping by a wholesale florist the night before -- almost all of the work had to take place while Ella was at school on Friday. I decided to take the day off of work, because there was no way I could pull everything together in the hour I had after school. My sister photographed the birthday party (because she's amazing) and I shared a few of her shots in my birthday letter on Monday, but I knew I would want to share behind the scenes of how everything came together. Since it was just in time for this month's Daily Dime post, I ...
