Do you want to know how excited I am to co-host the first Collaboreads of the new year?! Amber and Rachel started this virtual book club way back in May of 2015 and it's been one of my favorite places to link up ever since. This book lover's link-up isn't restrictive, and joins great books with even better bloggers, and creates a wonderful space for conversation. I love that the prompts are open ended, meaning you can be as literal or as figurative as you'd like. We'll pick the theme, you'll pick the book, and then we'll all link up at the end of the month. Sounds fun, right? This month's ...

What I Read in December

I wish I could tell you that I read exactly 52 books in 52 weeks, but it didn't quite shake down like that. Does it count that I started 52 books this year? I might not have met my goal exactly, but I'm pretty happy with myself. I do wish that number could have been a little larger, but I know this was a pretty big accomplishment for a crazy busy working mom. I debated whether to increase that number for next year or whether to set a different kind of reading goal altogether. I'm planning to share a bit of a reading recap for 2016 on the blog next week, so I hope to have that goal hammered out before ...
Collaboreads | The Lovely Bones

This is one of those months where I was insanely excited about the prompt for Collaboreads. I remember seeing the hard copy of this book when we packed up the house in October and thinking that I wanted to read it again soon. That was before I realized Josh would hold all of my worldly possessions hostage in the pod or I would have saved a stack of books to read over the next few months. As it stands, I used an extra Audible credit to download the audio version and only later realized that Alice Sebold herself, reads the novel. That, my friends, is what we call a happy accident. I read this ...
Collaboreads | The Wonder
Yesterday was Collaboreads day, but I was trapped in a tiny room with Sophie for 3+ hours and never got a chance to publish my post. I guess it's a good thing since I didn't actually finish the book until after the appointment was over anyway. Amber is taking a bloggy hiatus, but you can visit Rachel to see what everyone else read this month and to find out a little bit about this bookish link up. The criteria for today was to read a "foodie" book. I know what you're thinking, this doesn't exactly fit the bill. I actually downloaded the audiobook version of My Life in France and had every intention of reviewing it for today's yesterday's post, but I didn't get started in time and I knew there was no way I could finish. The Wonder was my BOTM selection a few months back and I had forgotten ...
Collaboreads | Before the Fall
It's moving week for me, which means this is my only post of the week. Let's be honest, the only reason it's done is that I wrote it two weeks ago. You can head over to Jennifer's blog if you're looking for our Wardrobe Wednesday link up, but don't forget that starting next week we'll be hosting the first Wednesday of every month. I'll be back next week with my regular posting schedule (I think!) and catch you up on life over the last several weeks. See you soon! Today, Amber and Rachel are hosting another round of Collaboreads and I am so excited! Given the season, this month’s prompt was to read a book with the word fall in the title. I didn't have to look too hard, since I had already downloaded the perfect candidate several weeks ago. After I turned this one down for my Book of the ...
Collaboreads | A Banned Book
Tomorrow, Amber and Rachel will be hosting another round of Collaboreads and this month's prompt was to read a book that had been previously banned. The Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger was one of my favorite books from high school and college. I have multiple copies of the original paperback, acquired from one too many thrift store adventures, and this beautiful hardcover was a birthday gift from my favorite roommate during my freshman year of college (Hi, Ali!). When I was thinking about what book to choose for this month's link up, I briefly considered Harry Potter. I haven't ever read it before (I know) and I was planning to wait and read it with the girls over the holidays, but it might be en route with a scheduled delivery date of... TOMORROW. I looked at several lists of banned ...
Collaboreads | And the Mountains Echoed
I was so excited when I heard Amber and Rachel were resurrecting the Collaboreads link up this month! You all know I love to read and sharing my monthly posts is one of my favorite things to do, but joining other readers in a monthly link up? Sold. I highly recommend hopping over to visit each of them tomorrow. I had to post a day early since tomorrow is Wardrobe Wesnesday! This month's book criteria was to read a book by an author of a different race or ethnicity than your own. I mentioned last month that reading books my african american authors was something I wanted to pay more attention to, so I considered choosing something from that list, BUT this book has been on my shelf for three years and I've started it twice, but never finished. I ...
Collaboreads | Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up
image via Make Space This month's Collaboreads link up was all about non-fiction. I just need to go ahead and admit that I am not really a fan of nonfiction books. At all. It doesn't matter how interesting the subject matter or how captivating the story, I can't ever quite make it from cover to cover. I like stories and make believe and escape and non-fiction almost always falls outside of those lines for me. Fortunately, a friend had encouraged me to read this one and since I had an extra Audible credit last month, I decided to download and listen to it instead. I'm not sure I would have finished it if it hadn't been for the audio version, but I'm so glad that I did.If you have lived on planet earth in the last year, I'm sure you've heard about this book or seen its cover floating around ...
