I fluctuate between years having excellent photographs or videos and those with mediocre ones. This year definitely falls into the latter category. Tropical Storm Cindy blew in at the halfway point and ruined a few of our best laid plans and with them went any concern for photographic evidence. We just had a great time and whatever I got, is what I got. How about a three part recap starting now? Our letterboard has been hanging in our ...

Beach Vlog | Volume 4
While we took a ton of video during our trip, that doesn't mean I didn't capture plenty of photographs, too. Since you've already seen most of the important parts, I thought I would share a few (ahem, thirty seven) of my favorites from throughout our stay. This trip was a little different than previous years -- we worked hard to say YES to all requests from tiny humans (when safe and feasible, obvs) and to be more relaxed about what we tried to fit in. We went to less "fancy" restaurants and got takeout a ton. We avoided the outlet mall altogether, but we did spent a significant amount of time in the souvenir shops. We rode our bikes and climbed trees and played mini golf more than all previous trips combined and did our best to sooth a mopey Sophie, who suffered from a migraine for the ...
Beach Vlog | Volume 3
I'm back with volume three and it's kind of my favorite thing ever. We welcomed our cousin Kalli back to the mainland, so there was a lot of on-camera anticipation for that. She moved to Hawaii last October and we've been missing her like crazy. In case you haven't figured it out yet, my entire extended family is super duper close and we always vacation together in the summer. We were lucky enough that she was in a wedding an hour away, so we got to love on her for exactly 48 hours. I wish you could see how excited the girls were in the moments before she appeared -- that is all they talked about for hours and they couldn't stop staring at the door of the restaurant! Also, in this episode, Sophie breaks down how to use her made up word in a sentence and apparently I've been doing it all ...
Beach Vlog | Volume 1
Sure, it's been a month since we got back from our family vacation, but I still like to pretend it isn't over yet. Those two weeks in June are some of my favorites of the entire year and after looking forward to them for months, it's really hard to let go. In fact, I've already made my reservations for next year and have a running list of things I want to update in the trailer before then. Does that make me crazy? Every summer, Josh makes fun of me for the endless photographs I take and reminds me that ya'll don't want to see us posing in front of those same favorite places every summer. As a mom (and keeper of the memories), I can't resist capturing all of those moments, but I do understand where he's coming from. Since we vlogged our mini vacation last summer, I've been dreaming of ...
24 Hour Beach Trip
Remember last week when I left you hanging? If you follow along on Instagram, then you'll know exactly what we were up to, but if not I'll let you in on a little secret. My family loves the beach. LOVES. And for the last several years, we've taken the girls to the beach for at least a couple days during spring break. This year, we just couldn't work it out with our schedules to take the time off and, boy were they disappointed! The Friday morning before Easter, my mom called me at work and asked me if I thought it would be completely insane to drive down for a day. Umm, no. For those of you not familiar with Birmingham, we are a little shy of five hours from the Gulf Coast. Driving down for the day is a little ridiculous, but I'm nothing if not ridiculous. I called Josh to make sure ...
Farewell to Summer
Since we've already recapped one summer beach trip for you (here, here, here, here and here), I thought you probably weren't interested in seeing another group of photos showing us on the sand, eating ice cream at Scoops or riding bikes around camp. Instead, we shot video clips throughout the weekend and put them all together for your viewing pleasure. I need you to know in advance that (a) we relied heavily on 90's playlists to pass the time in the car, (b) Josh was a super good sport about the camera in his face but didn't want to do an on-camera interview, (c) Sophie is FASCINATED with bathroom humor and no matter how often we discourage it she regularly works it into the conversation and (d) my children rarely get into any sort of physical altercation so the catfight we caught on film ...
My People
I had something completely different to share with you today, but then my sister sent me the album with our beach pictures last night and I just couldn't resist shifting things around a bit. Because she's an amazing photographer and because she's my sister, I have no shortage of beautiful photographs of my children's lives, BUT, this might be my favorite photo session of all time. It helps that we were happy as can be in our favorite place ever. Since we do beach pictures every year and I absolutely do not want them to be those khaki pants + white shirt quintessential beach sessions, we decided to try something different this year. There is a nature trail on a boardwalk, just over the bayou from our favorite ice cream shop. The lighting was perfect and there wasn't a soul around. Our only ...
How We Camp

Thanks for supporting the brands that make this blog possible. I feel like a get an eye roll every time I talk about “camping”. It seems there is a spectrum for camping and our summer vacations fall somewhere in the middle. Those of you who backpack or go on primitive camping adventures think that we may as well be staying in a four star hotel. And for those of you who are accustomed to condo life and a jetted tub, our idea of roughing it probably sounds detestable. No matter where you fall on the spectrum, I’m guessing it’s hard for you to imagine exactly how it all goes down. I ...
