Ali-U Are So Much Fun
My first year of college I met Ali. It has been eleven years since we moved into the dorm with two other girls we couldn't have had less in common with. We didn't know each other before school started and that made it so exciting. We had a four bedroom, two bath dorm room with a decent sized living area. Of course, Ali and I were on opposite sides of the suite, but that didn't stop us from spending every waking minute together. Of our other two girls, one spent 23 of every 24 hours in her room and the other spent 23 of every 24 hours asleep. We had lots of time to ourselves and drove the other two crazy. If you know me IRL then you know I'm loud and I never shut up. Well, so is Ali. One of my favorite memories is that although our doors were 20 feet from one another we would call each ...
Heart Week, Day 3
There's not much room for Valentine's goodness tonight, although SD did dress Ella in her requisite red polka-dot top today. They stayed home together all day and played. They had lunch at the Huddle House and practiced drawing letters. They didn't take pictures and she didn't really miss me. I missed them. I always miss them more on days when they're at home together and I'm sitting in my little office watching the rain slide down the windows. That's why when I walked in the door, we listened to that song again and danced in the dining room. I watched her proudly draw an "E". Se shared a really, yummy, fat-free ice cream sandwich. Did a little pilates in the playroom. For those of you who have never exercised with a two-year-old, it is a lot of fun. I have to fight ...
The Day
So my post was originally titled "The Perfect Day". Then I read this post while waiting on my pictures to upload and was reminded that despite the fact we are determined, I am determined to post about the most perfect parts of my life, it remains imperfect and stressful. I have bad days. I had one today. Then when I compare what I consider 'bad' to all of the other things that could be going on in my life today, I am humbled. I have a home and food in my pantry. I have a reliable car that gets me back and forth to work everyday. I have a career that supports my family and allows my husband to do what he loves. I have a beautiful child, whom I prayed desperately for, that fills my life with such wonderful moments. A Father in heaven. Saving grace. Eternity with Him. Although there are ...
Peas in Heavenly Peace
I was up at 6 o'clock on Christmas morning pacing the floors. Ella slept late. Finally at 7, I asked Josh if we could wake her up. Santa had come, stockings had been stuffed, all the lights were on, the cookies were just crumbs, the coffee was brewing and pigs in a blanket were cooling on the stove. When I woke her up I told her that Santa had come and we were wondering where she was. She said, "Mom, I was sleeping in my bed." I asked her if she wanted to go back to sleep or if she was ready for her presents. What do you think she said? When she saw her presents she said, "Is that my kitchen?" We said yes. "Santa bringed it?" Again, yes. Then she squealed. She wanted to play with every single present as she opened them, so it took a little while. Thankfully Josh & I had opened gifts ...
Alabama Day
Let me start by saying that I'm not a football fan and never really have been. I know that is sacrilegious in this state, but I can usually be found chasing a two-year old or reading a magazine during said game. For the sake of my husband, I try to participate... wear a red shirt on Saturdays, accompany him to whatever venue the game will be viewed, being proud for him over a win and sad for a loss. Then there was this year. I have thoroughly enjoyed this season for Alabama, if for no other reason that the pure joy it brings my husband. The fact that Ella stinkin' LOVES to wear her Ah-bama dress is just icing on the cake. Today we had lots going on before and after the game and it was such a good day. When she realized this morning that she and daddy were both wearing Alabama shirts ...
Daddy, come home
Dear "my Daddy", We really miss you, please come home. We miss how you are snuggled in the bed with Beemer when we leave in the mornings. And how you don't get mad when we wake you up to say, "I love you. See you this af'ernoon." We miss how you play hide and go seek. And beauty shop. And how you don't cry when we're really rough with your hair. We miss how you feed us dinner and get us out of the highchair {even though while you've been gone we started eating in the booster chair}. We miss how you buckle us in and out of our car seat. We miss cutting grass with you. We miss how you give us pretty pink manicures every Friday night. We miss snuggle time and John & Kate. We miss 1, 2, cha cha cha. We miss and love you VERY MUCH!!! Love, Ella {and Mommy... and ...
