How excited are you that it's Friday?! We have some fun things planned for the weekend and I'm thrilled just to be home with my girls and Josh. Last weekend was crazy. I got home after midnight, two nights in a row and didn't get nearly enough family time. AND I still need to watch the first two episodes of Grey's Anatomy and convince Josh to sign up for Hulu so that I can watch Scandal! Okay, here's what we were up to this week. 1. You know all about the concert now, but what you don't know is that I rode down to Tuscaloosa on Saturday for the Alabama/Ole Miss game. Josh had taken the girls with him to a friend's house so I could get some housework done and then I was going to join them later in the afternoon to watch the game. They weren't gone ten minutes when my friend, Leila, called ...
so mothers be good to your daughters, too
I'm sure there are people who think it inappropriate that I carried my seven year old daughter to a rock concert on Saturday night; I even felt a few stares at the show. I can honestly say it was one of the best moments I've spent with Ella in her short little life. When you find out you are having a baby girl, all these thoughts go through your mind about the fun, girly things you'll be able to share. Coffee dates, pedicures, shopping trips, beach weekends. I never really thought about music when making that mental list. She's seven and her musical tastes aren't all that palatable to me, most of the time. There are rare moments when she belts out an old Pearl Jam song or Mumford & Sons or even The Head & the Heart and my heart swells with pride. This kid is going to have excellent ...
5 on Friday | Week 38
It's that time again!! I am seriously falling in love with 5 on Fridays. I've been thinking all week about what I can share with you. I'm sorry I get so long-winded, but it's like 5 blog posts all wrapped up in one. Indulge me. 1. Family pictures. My mom has been begging us to snap some pictures of the grandkids all together since Hudson was born in July. You would think since we all live on the same street and my sister is a photographer that this would be easy to achieve. Notsomuch. She also wanted to take a family photo with the newest addition for her Christmas cards. I got so overwhelmed with design orders last year that my mom never got a Christmas card (#daughterfail), so I promised to have hers all wrapped up before I started taking orders in mid-October. I haven't seen the ...
clothes pins, legs & a zamboni
Do you ever get writer's block? I look back through posts that I wrote a year ago or even three years ago and I had so much to say. This blog started out as a way to document the lives of my littles and the older they get, the fewer funny stories I have to share. Talking about how I lay out their clothes in the morning and pack their lunches isn't very entertaining. I doubt you want to hear about my (sometimes) two hour commute or how the pizza place made me wait for 15 minutes when the sausage & pepperoni is supposed to be "hot and ready". What about how Ella's dance class let out late last night and I barely made it to Bible study on time. I'm rarely the girl with nothing to say, but the blinking cursor isn't very inspiring today. Josh helped me put together a list of arm / shoulder ...
#hashtags and other interesting reads
I think hashtags are funny. They don't bother me. I find them even funnier when people are bothered by them. A friend forwarded me the link to this video of Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon having a conversation riddled with hash tags. I almost died. Mostly because K posted a picture over the summer of that exact same hand gesture. I didn't share any links last week, so they piled up. I hope you have some time to do nothing but click on through, because I bookmarked lots of things to love. 01 || Funny, funny guide to naming your children from a man's perspective. 02 || How to survive Whole Foods. 03 || A scary clown staring at passersby. 04 || I cannot even handle how painful this poetry is. Excruciating. 05 || An open letter to PSL lovers everywhere. 06 || A perfect post on ...
5 on Friday | Week 37
1. iPhone updates. All day on Wednesday, my news feed was filled with complaints about the new operating system update. It took forever to download. It crashed. It's too slow. It looks like a kindergartener designed it. Well imagine my surprise yesterday morning when I woke up to a newly updated phone and I was in LOVE. I realize my design aesthetic might be different than everyone else's, but I think the new look is great! It's modern and more streamlined and I'm totally digging it. The fonts are beautiful, the color-scheme is lovely and the new functions are so intuitive and easy to use. Thoughts? 2. Survivor. I'll admit that we don't watch a whole of television at our house. The kids are obsessed with Disney and Josh watches a lot of sports, but we don't do sitcoms and it's rare ...
My Two Ballerinas
It's hard to wrap my mind around the fact that Ella has just started her fifth year of dance. What's even harder to believe is that she was ever this tiny or that Sophie is old enough to dance herself?! In honor of "Throwback Thursday" I couldn't resist sharing a comparison of my girls on their very first day of ballet! Ella, August 2009 // Sophie, August 2013 And just for good measure, here are a few more pictures from Sophie's first day that I love. She is such a sassafras! ...
