I have gotten quite a few requests via email and Instagram to share a hand-lettering tutorial. I'm not sure that "tutorial" is really the right word since I'm showing you how *I* do things, not necessarily how *you* should do them. Either way, I sat down armed with my camera and a few of my favorite supplies to show you a few easy things you can do to help make your letters look adorable. I am still trying to figure out the best way to shoot these videos. I have a great camera, but it wasn't being cooperative so I ended up shooting this with my phone. Hence the crazy angle and the fact that you can see my nose almost the entire time. Also, I say something about "making the letters more interesting" approximately 764 times, so there's that. What started out as a short video, quickly ...

Thanks for supporting the brands that make this blog possible. If you have been reading here for any amount of time, you must know that I am a huge fan of the Life Planner by Erin Condren. There are so many things that I love about it, but it doesn't hurt that it's well designed. I've been using them for almost four years now and if you had asked me a month ago, I would have told you I was preparing to order another one. Then I read this post on Amber's blog. Mostly, I need a place to jot down my to-do list, a few important dates or appointments, shopping lists, meal plans and blog post ...
School’s Out for Summer!
I cannot wrap my mind around the fact that school is over for the year. Am I the only one feeling like the last nine months just raced by? It was hard enough dealing with the fact that Sophie was in all day 4 Year Old kindergarten, but actual real-live Kindergarten? That's a tough pill to swallow. A few weeks ago, Sophie had her one and only Pre-K field trip of the year. We did this same thing with Ella and I remember it being so much fun! Since they aren't technically Kindergartners, they can't ride the bus and parents have to provide them a ride to the McWane Science Center downtown. Fortunately for me, it's a short walk from my office, so Taz hung out for a few hours after breakfast while I got some work done. We met her class at 9:30 and had several hours to explore the museum and ...
Memorial Day Recipe: Stuffed Burgers
You might have missed the boat on making these for Memorial Day, but you should definitely pick up the ingredients for your next summer barbecue or put them on the menu for your July 4th celebration. After seeing a few viral videos detailing "beer can burgers" last week, Josh and I decided to try our hand at something similar to celebrate the holiday. We have been eating VERY clean the last ten days and wanted to steer clear of junk food on Monday, even though we knew there would be plenty of it. We did add cheese and their *might* have been a box of Krispy Kreme donuts somewhere around the pool, but I'm pretty proud of us for not over-indulging. INGREDIENTS 2 pounds of ground chuck, or your ground meat of choice 8 slices of bacon 8 slices of smoked gouda red and green bell ...
Introducing the Log House Project
It's hard to believe it's been almost a year since I wrote this post. Only a few weeks ago, we found ourselves in that exact same place. We have continued to look at houses and even liked a few of them, but the market in our area is tricky. Everything is either similar in size and price to the Rock House, or it's a huge home on acreage with a matching price tag. We began seriously discussing whether we wanted to tie up all of our money into a house and land. We've looked at floor plans and Pinterest and we're constantly batting ideas back and forth, trying to decide what feels the most like us. Build, buy, stay? At the end of almost every conversation, we come back to the very same place. To make a very long story short, my parents have been talking about down-sizing for years. Their ...
dear husband,
somewhere between the Grand Canyon + Arches National Park, summer of 2000 I've spent the better part of this week unfolding love notes we wrote one another eighteen years ago. I found ticket stubs and happy meal stickers, gumball machine diamonds and cell phone numbers from another lifetime. Some days I look at you and think we've only just gotten started. It's hard to fathom that I've loved you more than half my life. I have laughed and teared up and blushed at those letters. The vast majority of them are so silly and so quintessentially teenage, but then I run across a sentence that takes my breath away. A tiny peek at the crazy love we had already found at seventeen. You know how wonderfully awkward it is the first time you brush your teeth next to someone? Crammed next to each other ...
Mother’s Day
My people were so good to me on Mother's Day this year. Josh laughed when I was prepping the coffee pot on Saturday night so that he wouldn't have to do any guesswork the next morning. He thought I was being a bit presumptuous to assume breakfast in bed, but I figured {since I went to the store and picked up the ingredients and then set the coffee pot and added cream and sugar to my cup the night before} they had no excuses. I was greeted with a VERY loud "Happy Mother's Day" from my youngest as they barreled into our room. I was out cold and it was quite the wake up. I was overwhelmed with homemade cards and warm coffee and pigs in a blanket and a Stitch Fix gift card. Score! After church, we met Josh's parents at a local Mexican restaurant and treated them to lunch. It was so nice to ...
Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About Bible Journaling
Affiliate links appear in the following post. Although shopping the embedded links won’t cost you any additional dollars, it might mean that I can purchase some additional art supplies this month. Your support of my journaling habit is always appreciated! It's been several weeks since I posted anything Bible Journaling related and I thought you were due for an update. I get lots of questions on my Instagram posts and they are all things I wanted to ask in the beginning myself. Now that I have several months of faith journaling experience, I thought I'd share more details about my process, my supplies and my favorite ways to connect my faith with my talents. The most frequently asked question I get is "Where did you get that amazing Bible cover?!" I was fortunate enough to jump on The ...
