It's been awhile since I brain-dumped here, so I thought I would catch you up on a few things that don't necessarily warrant their own post. We've been super busy getting things ready for the holidays (do you ever just get to enjoy this season?!), and in the midst of that, so many wonderful things have happened. Since there was such a big gap between my pregnancy with Sophie and my pregnancy with Polly, I didn't actually keep very many things of the big girls. I gave my sister most of the things my mom sewed and packed away their hospital gowns and coming outfits, but I couldn't justify keeping 17 bins of toddler clothes. There are many things that I regret giving away, but just when I start to have a pity party, my sister unearths a treasure I thought long gone. Most of the ...
October Little Things
Yes, this says October, but I'm bound and determined to get all caught up by the end of the year. Josh makes fun of me every time I apologize for being so behind on the blog, but I'm really apologizing to myself. I miss it when I fall behind and I know I'll want these memories cataloged somewhere one day. The last few months have been so much fun. The big girls are thriving at their after school activities and Polly has grown so much in such a short period of time (maybe I owe you a Polly update, too?). Looking back on these clips from October, remind me just how much. I'll be back with November's Little Things before the end of the year and maybe, just maybe, I'll be a better blogger in 2020. Maybe... ...
New York City Snapshots | Part 2
In case you missed it, you can you can see all of our NYC recap posts here: part one | part two | part three | part four Day two is going to have to come to you in multiple parts, because we took so many pictures. We all agreed that it was our very favorite day and that's mostly because we weren't overly scheduled. We had a few things that were time sensitive, but for the part we wandered around the city and tried our best to check things off of our list. Also, I left my camera at the hotel (because I didn't want to cart it around all day), so all of these are iPhone snaps. I might regret that one day, but the memories outweigh the photographs, so I just tried not to think about it too much. We had breakfast at Pershing Square, which is just across the street from Grand ...
New York City Snapshots | Part 1
In case you missed it, you can you can see all of our NYC recap posts here: part one | part two | part three | part four Several months ago, Josh asked me what I wanted to do for my fortieth birthday. I reminded him that we hadn't done anything big to celebrate his birthday in January and he reminded me that he hates to be the center of attention (can you say opposites attract?). I was still thinking he meant a birthday party or dinner with friends, but he surprised me on a random work day by asking if I wanted to head to NYC for the weekend. We quickly threw together some travel plans (in addition to ridiculously expensive Hamilton tickets!!) and prepared to tell the girls we were going without them. The day we were booking flights, I felt the biggest pit in my stomach about leaving ...
Seeing Santa | 2019
Let me preface this by saying that we waited for an hour and a half to see the big guy yesterday. We've been talking about Santa at our house for several weeks and Polly can pick him out on her pajamas or the Christmas tree and the way she says his name is adorable. I went back and forth between hoping she was in awe of him and that she would cry a little, but her reaction was so much more extreme than I was expecting! We let my sister's kids go first, because Vera Claire was obsessed with that rocking horse and wanted to ride it so bad. After she realized she had to sit on Santa, she lost it. Her cry was completely silent and eventually she just closed her eyes and wished it all away. Polly was completely chill while we waited in line and called for and waved at Santa many ...
Tree Tent Adventure
For pretty much our entire marriage, we've loaded up on the morning after Thanksgiving to pick out our Christmas tree. The girls look forward to this day for weeks and by Thursday afternoon, they couldn't stop talking about it. We alternate between a few of our favorite breakfast places, stuff ourselves full of pancakes, and then pick out the biggest tree we can fit inside our house. This was the year we discovered that Polly doesn't like pancakes, french toast OR waffles (unless slathered in nut butter), so I was patting myself on the back for feeding her something before we left. She did eat a scrambled egg, a few bites of bacon, and a green pea squeezie, but I'm hoping we can convince her that IHOP breakfasts are a rare delicacy. This was also the year of mostly blurry ...
Currently | December 2019
December is already kicking my butt. Anybody else? Our calendars are full of sports and celebrations and deadlines and we are furiously trying to squeeze it all in, while still enjoying the heck out of the holiday. Polly is determined to tear our tree down and I'm determined to have a beautiful Christmas with a fifteen month old -- are these two things mutually exclusive?! I might not have blogged much this year, but I did manage to take a photo of our living room every single month. November's was from a slightly different perspective, but I still loved capturing life in the center of our home. I can't decide if I should do something different this year or pick another room of our house -- any suggestions or things you'd love to see? wrapping | Gifts are just starting to arrive ...
Halloween Snapshots
Last year was our first time trick-or-treating in my sister's neighborhood and it's my new favorite thing! With only one street of houses, we aren't committing to hours of walking, and the kids get just enough candy to tide them over until Christmas. We started early this year (because, babies), so not everyone was home from work, but we let the kids divide what candy my sister had on her porch and everyone went home happy. Polly literally never cracked a smile while wearing her costume and was perfectly content to ride in her stroller with her bucket fastened to her waist. It was a blustery 45 degrees, so I was happy she didn't insist on walking. Sophie's horns blew off with every gust of the wind, so by the time we finished, she was just adorably dressed in black and white. Oh, ...
