Your support of this blog is much appreciated! If you had asked me this time last year if I had ever considered painting in my Bible, I would have laughed and told you no. Although I spent hours doodling through worship as a teenager, it never occurred to me that it wasn't only acceptable, but necessary for me to connect with scripture in that way. Maybe you've only seen the passing page of an illustrated Bible on Instagram or maybe you had never seen anything like it before yesterday. I thought today I'd share a little more about what it IS and what it ISN'T. 1 Faith Journaling ISN'T just craft time, but it IS a ...
31 Days of Faith in the Margins
I have to be honest with you. After spending most of September following the prompts of another blogger, I was looking forward to stretching a little this month. Spreading my wings, if you will. I had a list of post ideas and family topics and photo recaps to share with you and I was excited about being a little less structured in my planning and scheduling. I was sitting in bed on Sunday afternoon, struggling to catch up on design orders, listening to football with one ear and texting back and forth with Jennifer when she mentioned 31 Days. At first glance I was skeptical about whether or not I could commit to sharing about the same topic for an entire month, but part of me was also intrigued. There are so many reasons I loved the structure of last month (hello accountability and ...
Leopard + Pink Ice Cream Party
You all know that birthday parties are my love language and I was so excited to celebrate my sweet Ella a few weeks ago. Although her birthday is in September, every few years she gets the itch for a pool party, so we back the celebration up a few weeks and celebrate in August. She didn't have much in the way of requests this year -- swimming, leopard print and mint chocolate chip. We debated a jungle-themed soiree, but ended up having a repeat of our favorite ice cream sundae bar with some animal print thrown in. The pink and brown was perfect and there is nothing like drippy ice cream cones after a swim! We used fabric flags that my mom sewed for Ella's first birthday party and I added a few pink leopard print ribbons in between to make it fit the theme a little better. At Hobby ...
Blog-tember: Created to Create
Given that I'm a pretty creative person, I love that today's blog prompt was to "get creative!" I love making things with my hands and art and creativity play a huge role in the everyday life of my family. One of my favorite ways to get creative at this stage of my life, is spending time in Bible study and faith journaling with my daughters. We try to spend a few nights a week (and usually time on Saturday AND Sunday) doing a devotional together and connecting it to art in the margins of our Bibles. I crave time in the scripture alone, too, but time together with them is quickly becoming one of my favorite things ever.In case you aren't familiar with faith journaling or just want to know more of my story and why it speaks to me, you can read a post I wrote last winter. Since I've already ...
Blogtember | Periscope
I'm not usually the first to jump on a new social media bandwagon, but Periscope is definitely my latest obsession. I'm not at all shy and I always enjoy videos and interacting with other like-minded ladies, so sharing creativity through Periscope is right up my alley. I've shared a few times before, but this last Saturday was such a treat! I woke up early to post a Periscope schedule on Instagram and saw that several of my favorite Illustrated Faith girls were also sharing that day. We all managed to do a process video back to back (and each shared something different), so I sat at my dining room table with journaling supplies, snacks and football muted in the background for almost five hours - it was so much fun! When I wasn't sharing my own page, I spent time working on some other pages ...
Blogtember | Books That Have Impacted My Life
Today's prompt was to share 5 books that have impacted my life the most. When I first read that I started thinking about fiction that I fell in love with that had a lasting impact, but when I walked over to the bookcase, these six books were all stacked together and it seemed like a sign. Yes, I have an extra book in my stack, but I'm hard pressed to tell you which of these I like more than another. Platt, Chan and Hatmaker pretty much rocked my world when it came to Christianity and how to live the Gospel out loud. I had been living a pretty comfortably ignorant "Christian" life until we started reading these books as a part of my small group several years ago. I fell in love with the bold way these authors were living their faith and the ways they interpreted scripture in the face of an ...
Blogtember | Friday Night with My Girl
It's Friday night and we're staying in. Because it's this Belly's BIRTHDAY. You guys, how is she already nine years old? NINE. This is our last year before double-digits and I can't even begin to wrap my mind around that {Also, how am I old enough to have a 9 year old. I'm only 20... right?!}. We did all of our big celebrating a few weekends ago, so tonight it's just family night dinner with my three favorites. Of course, the birthday girl requested Zaxby's and mint chocolate chip ice cream, so it's looking like a picnic in mama's room. And because what's a birthday post without a letter to my biggest girl, I'm sharing some of my favorite words again. I wrote much of this post on a previous birthday, but it says all the things I need to share with my beautiful girl on her day. My ...
Where Bible Journaling + Holiday Cards Meet
I've had a big idea brewing in my head for quite some time, but I wasn't sure exactly how it would take shape. After months of thinking and weeks of planning, I wanted to share with you my vision for this year's holiday cards. I've told you countless times how Bible Journaling has absolutely changed the way I approach the gospel and I can see it bleeding out into every area of my life. Although I have often added Bible verses and spiritual sentiments to my holiday cards, I really wanted to try something different this year. These Mixed-Media Holiday Cards incorporate a painterly, hand-lettered Bible page on the front and can include your choice of photograph(s) and text on the back OR can be printed as postcards with space for a handwritten note. I've already ordered our cards this ...
