Remember last week when I left you hanging? If you follow along on Instagram, then you'll know exactly what we were up to, but if not I'll let you in on a little secret. My family loves the beach. LOVES. And for the last several years, we've taken the girls to the beach for at least a couple days during spring break. This year, we just couldn't work it out with our schedules to take the time off and, boy were they disappointed! The Friday morning before Easter, my mom called me at work and asked me if I thought it would be completely insane to drive down for a day. Umm, no. For those of you not familiar with Birmingham, we are a little shy of five hours from the Gulf Coast. Driving down for the day is a little ridiculous, but I'm nothing if not ridiculous. I called Josh to make sure ...
White Chicken Chili
Josh and I are headed out of town today for a little weekend getaway and Heather was nice enough to fill in for me! It's my week to share some LiveWhole365 goodness with you guys, so she's sharing a great family-friendly recipe for Whole30 Approved White Chicken Chili. Hi, Taz and Belly friends! I'm Heather from My Life Well Loved - a healthy lifestyle blog that empowers women to be their best in style, fitness, family, and all the things in life WORTH LOVING. I teach at our local Pure Barre and work part-time in real estate doing marketing for the Jamie Goff Team. Like Kristin, I also live in Birmingham, Alabama and love this fabulous little southern city. I am also a co-founder of Home Grown Blog Events and would love to invite you to our Birmingham event in September! My ...
Easter Happened
I've been working on organizing photographs, updating old blog posts and getting my external hard-drive nice and organized while I have a little downtime. I was editing photos earlier this morning and realized that I had a couple of pretty important life-events that never made the blog. Easter was already a busy weekend for us and we threw in some last minute travel, so my normal posting schedule went out the window. Who cares if it's a month later and practically summer, because I have pretty pictures to share! If you've been reading for long, you'll know that we've been in a major transition, church-wise, for the last eighteen months. Last Easter was the first time in almost thirty years that I celebrated in a different place and as it turns out, we were at another church this year. ...
5 on Friday: Life Update
1. The 100 Day Project I loved watching everyone participate in this last year and was so sad that I didn't know about it in time to jump in myself. In case you aren't familiar, The 100 Day Project is the brainchild of Ella Luna and a challenge to choose a creative endeavor to repeat for 100 consecutive days. I was (am) skeptical that this is even something I can complete, but I decided to give it a try and see how things go. I picked up a 100 page sketch pad earlier in the week and I'm filling one page per day for the next 100 days. My pages will likely be floral heavy -- I'm very into flowers these days and in the middle of a web-based floral drawing class -- but I'm not limiting myself to any particular theme. The idea is just to put pen to paper once a day until the book is full. I ...
Letters
Remember way back in September when I wrote a letter to my sixteen year old self? What if we wrote to our future selves instead? I'm linking up with Kiki at In It's Time for the Circle Link Up. I saw Leah share her letter yesterday and I couldn't help but to write one of my very own. Be sure to visit them both and see what all they had to share with their future selves. Dear Future Kristin, It pains me to say this, but HOW are you forty-six? I remember when you turned twenty-six and thirty-six and both times you just felt old. I hope your forties are the best decade ever and that you finally feel comfortable in your skin and okay with aging and proud of all you've accomplished. No matter where you've found yourself, I bet you can't believe you've been alive that long either. This year ...
Happy S-I-X
Six years ago yesterday, I got a really nice haircut. I had my fingernails and toenails painted. I spent a few hours puttering around your nursery and K came by to take the last photo of my big round belly. Six years ago this morning, I woke up hours early and cleaned house. We loaded the dishwasher, made the bed and ran by the bank. We walked into a darkened hospital corridor at five o'clock in the morning ready to meet your sweet face. Things were so different than they were will Ella. I had a plan and I knew how the day would go. I got to shower this time and was armed with plenty of chapstick. In true Sophie fashion, you made quite the entrance. Warm and cozy and wedged behind my hip (where you spent the prior six months), you refused to come out and had to be forcibly removed. You ...
What I Read in March
Affiliate links appear in the following post. Although shopping the embedded links won’t cost you any additional dollars, it might mean that I download a few extra audio books this month. Your support of my reading habit is always appreciated! Despite a slow start, I managed to get five books read this month. My "to read" list is growing exponentially, but I'm working slow and steady to cross them off. I know that come summer, I'll read far more than one book a week, so as long as I continue to squeeze in 4-5 per month, I should stay right on track! I've gotten into a historical fiction funk, so you'll see a few of those this month and (spoiler alert) a few more in April. I've also been thinking that I need to add a library card to my list of things to do. That's right, I don't even ...
March by the Numbers
It's time for everybody's favorite numerical breakdown of all the things we did in March! I cannot believe how fast we plowed through this month, but given that I pretty much say that after every single one of them, I should probably just assume that life will continue to move at lightning speed whether I like it or not. I had so many things on my my "by the numbers post-it note" that I barely fit it all into my infographic! I'm also linking up with Anne in Residence, so keep on scrolling to find out what we're up to currently! Eating is still going very, very well. It's hard to believe I am already a quarter of the way through my year of whole foods, but it is getting easier every day. I shared an FAQ post last month that I think helps to explain where my head is right now. It gets ...
