Remember when blogging was just talking about what you did every day? I used to talk about princess tea parties and pizza picnics. I aimed to snap a photo every single day so that I could update Josh on what we were doing at home while he was traveling. Did you even know that's how this blog started? I know that people have places to be and things to do this week and blogs are probably really low on the priority list, so for today I thought I'd share an old-school style weekend recap. Who's with me?! Friday // Can we talk about holiday traffic? I already spend way too much time in the car every day, but holiday traffic is killing my commute! I needed to run to Walmart for a few things we needed to bake a pie and I met Jennifer to safely deliver her Christmas cards. I took her a ...
Finding Our Christmas Tree | Vlog
Two days of video in a row?! Who am I even? I know everyone has their own holiday traditions and, whether they are super simple or over-the-top extravagant, they are each so special. One of things I look forward to the most is Black Friday -- and let me assure you it has exactly zero to do with shopping. Unless, of course, you count the tree! We all slept in on Friday morning. Thanksgiving was exhausting and we all stayed up a little late. I was the first to get up and then both girls trailed down the stairs about thirty minutes apart. Finally, Josh was up around 8:30 and declared that we should be dressed and ready for breakfast by 9 o'clock. Nothing like good food to get the girls ready in a hurry. Of course, Sophie cried because she didn't have any Christmas pajamas, Ella was ...
The Log House Vlog | Episode One
It's been just over eighteen months since we publicly shared our decision to buy by childhood home. We talked through so many other options before arriving at this one, but after living here (again) for the last seven weeks, it's hard to imagine we considered anything else. There hasn't been a single day where it hasn't felt like home, I haven't accidentally driven to the wrong house, and it turns out that living with your parents can be down right fun if you let it! I haven't shared too much about our move since closing on the Rock House, but I've been hoarding lots of details and I wanted to share them with you before our renovation begins next year. I'm going to play this like a Q&A, so pretend these are answers to all of your burning questions, okay? We haven't unpacked ...
Christmas Wrapping Ideas
I seriously considered sharing this post as a DIY, but we're only a week away from Christmas and I'm guessing you already have your wrapping supplies in hand, right? Instead, I snapped a few photos of some of my favorite packages and thought I would share how we're decorating our Christmas gifts this year! I saw a comment on another blog earlier in the week that asked if holiday decorations in every room and over the top wrapping was a blogger thing. I guess it's possible that some bloggers spend all of that time and money just for content, but that isn't how things go down at my house. The January before I was married (in August), some of my mom's girlfriends threw me a holiday themed wedding shower. They each bought me ornaments, holiday dishes and plenty of decor during the after ...
Ruby’s Famous Cornbread Dressing
In hindsight, I should have shared this recipe with you a month ago. The real story, though, is that I've been perfecting my recipe skills and I only just got this right on the morning of Thanksgiving. The good news is, you can cook this for Christmas and Easter and any other Tuesday you've got a craving! I've been enjoying this particular cornbread dressing for the last nineteen years. First, Josh's grandmother Ruby made it for us and, later, his mom took over the responsibility. I borrowed the recipe pretty early in our marriage, but Josh is quick to point out when his mom has me beat in the kitchen. This is one that I could always get close, but never quite right. It turns out, I made a few critical errors when transcribing the recipe. Since my recipe box is still in storage, I asked ...
Coffee with Kristin 006
If we were on a coffee date, I would tell you that today is goody day at my office and it's the very best office holiday of the year! No, it's not remotely healthy (hello gluten & sugar), but it's delicious and super fun to visit everyone as you fix your second third plate. I made these herbed crackers and Ella begged to take some for her afternoon snack today. Since Sophie is gluten free for now, I had to whip up something she could have, too! I melted allergen free chocolate chips, then almond butter, then topped it with crushed gf chocolate chips. I broke it apart into fudge-y chunks and it was amazing. Two work treats and two afternoon snacks complete. If we were on a coffee date, I would tell you that I am finally done with my Christmas shopping. Josh would tell you that I say ...
Little Letters | December
Dear Virtual Friends, I'm so excited that you're back here again this month. I hope that we can grow this little linkup together and learn all sorts of fun things about each other as we go. Dear New Visitors, This is our favorite new linkup. The second Friday of every month, we'll be sharing Little Letters together on our blogs. Write a series of letters to anyone or anything you'd like and come back here to link up. Don't forget to share with your friends. This is one of those times where "the more, the merrier" definitely applies! Dear December, You arrived much quicker than I anticipated, but boy am I glad you're here. Cooler temperatures, sparkly lights and presents under the tree? It doesn't get sweeter than that. Dear Christmas Cards, I designed you weeks ago, but I haven't ...
What I Read in November
Warning: Affiliate links appear in the following post. Although shopping What I Read in November won’t cost you any additional dollars, it might mean that I download a few extra audio books this month. Your support of my reading habit is always appreciated! After reading a ton of books back in October, I was hoping to have another book filled month. It turns out that moving is exhausting and I spent far more time napping and watching movies this month than I did reading. I have no regrets, given how many books I've completed this year, but I'm going to work extra hard in December to finish as many books as possible. I am looking forward to a book related year-in-review post and to finally decide what my favorite book of 2016 really was! I’m using the following scale, courtesy of ...
