We woke up on Saturday morning, anxious to be home. We had gotten excited with Ella's homecoming only to be detained an extra day for her cardiac consultation. Luckily, Sophie was discharged bright and early and we knew we were homeward bound. Ella made it very clear that she wanted to escort us home, so Gran got her up and ready and we were ready to leave the hospital before lunch. Ella helped me get her dressed in her pretty gown Gran made. Unfortunately, she was so little we had to wear Gran's backup dress, but we did manage to sneak her sweet slip underneath. All tucked in with Gigi! Ready to go. Happy to be headed home. Home Sweet Home! ...
Two Days In
Sophie is happily cooing in her crib, Ella is watching cartoons and SD ran to get dinner. I finally have the 45 seconds required to throw a post together for you all. Hopefully, I'll have all of my pictures uploaded tonight and tomorrow will be a three-post kind of day. Our last full day in the hospital was Friday and it was probably the most relaxing of them all. We slept until almost 9 o'clock in the morning, Sophie was happy and the nurses had finally poked me enough. Nana brought in a fabulous lunch for us and Ella came to see us after school. This is what it looked like. I promised Ella that Sophie would be wearing pink when she got there and boy was she adorable, even if her pants kept falling off her tiny waist! I wore my favorite nightgown and did this most of the ...

Sophie, Day 4
I'm sorry I don't have any pictures today. Are you shocked!? Plenty have been taken, but I haven't unpacked my camera cable yet. I promise for photo-filled posts this week, but I hated not to at least update you on our angel baby. We were discharged mid-morning yesterday and home by lunch. We laughed at how differently coming home is the second time. There were no photographers on standby, no gourmet lunch or fancy nightgowns, no fanfare and it was just perfect. We ran through a drive-thru on our way home, put on sweats and piled into bed. Gran came by with dinner, unpacked our hospital luggage, Ella's bags and did all of the laundry. We had a pretty good night. Sophie ate well all night and I got about 7 hours of sleep total. I wore {snug} blue jeans to the doctor and we got a ...
Coming Home.
The shades on our hospital windows are still pulled. I'm sitting in the dark listening to the heavy breathing of two of my favorite people. My other favorite person is probably rubbing the sleep from her eyes, excited to bring Sophie home where she belongs. She has already had blood work done this morning and we're waiting to hear the results. She has lost a total of 11 ounces, weighing 6 pounds and 3 ounces this morning. I'm hoping to see my doctor soon, enjoy another round of cinnamon french toast and begin the process of coming home. I'm ready to see the rock house and the grey ghost that lives there. I'm ready to see two little blue eyed girls snuggling in mommy's bed. I'm ready for down-filled pillows and comfortable chairs and rocking in the nursery. Mostly I'm ready for our life as ...
Her Birth Day
I know it's a little out of order, but I wanted to share a few photos from Wednesday and tell you how it all went. Unfortunately, 3:30 a.m. came a little too soon and we were busying ourselves getting ready for the big adventure. Does it surprise anyone that I made the beds, emptied and reloaded the dishwasher and took out the trash on our way out the door? I hated for our housesitter to be miserable! Our first opportunity to snuggle, post-recovery. We were reporting to labor and delivery at 5 o'clock that morning and were greeted by a fabulous nurse, Jonlyn, who took excellent care of us while we were there. We watched the baby on the monitor for the next few hours while I answered a thousand questions, wrote a big fat check and got my epidural. I was really nervous about the ...
Today.
Last night was long, but good. Sophie slept well and nursed well and when she was awake, she cooed in her bassinet between us. Once the sun was up, I feasted my eyes upon this. I laid in bed, snuggling with her until my first meal of french toast arrived. I know it was hospital food, but I was starving and it was so good. I got to shower first thing this morning and was finally untethered from my many cords and cables. Sophie, SD & I spent the first few hours of our day snuggling in bed together quietly. No tv, no computer, no telephone. It was bliss. My other angel arrived around lunch and spent most of the day with us. We watched Hannah Montana, sang silly songs, played paper dolls and talked about being a big sister. It was a lovely day and I can't wait to do it all ...
Happy Birthday, Sophie!
Sophie Kae Fields made her arrival this morning at 7:24. She was 6 lbs, 14 oz and 20 inches long. She is absolutely gorgeous, which isn't too hard to believe considering that she looks just like her big sister. My surgery went beautifully and she was born only 9 minutes after it began. I got to watch a giant flat-screen TV while they cleaned her up and it was so exciting to see all of the action this time around. She got to spend lots of time with me in recovery and we've all been fighting over her ever since. Thank you so much for all of your well-wishes, thoughts and prayers today. Our day couldn't have gone better and Ella is in LOVE with her baby sister. ...
