If you follow me on Instagram, you might have seen a little sneak-peek of this cleaning chart early last week. I am a self-professed procrastinator, especially when it comes to housework or laundry. I wish I was that girl who cleaned house and cooked dinner while wearing pearls, but I'm just not. Before children, life was easy. There were only two people to think about, an abundance of time and very little mess to clean up. After Ella came along, things were a little more involved, but there was still plenty of me to go around. These days, we're killing each other to get out the door in the morning, we have three hours of dance each week, church activities, Josh is helping to coach JV football, there are family responsibilities, grocery shopping and an endless number of errands to run. ...
Project 365: Week 39
Well, it took me blogging Project 365 updates 11 days in a row over the last two weeks to finally catch up, but I did it. And I don't plan to be falling behind any time soon. I'm tired of not blogging. I miss the interwebs. So, here is the first of many "regularly scheduled" P365 posts! Sunday, September 23 (Day 257): I finally finished my third Gillian Flynn book on Sunday and I'm sad that there aren't any more available. I love her writing style and the endings are completely unexpected. I need to read more books like this. Any suggestions? Monday, September 24 (Day 258): The cleaning chart. I know ya'll are surprised to hear that this was Josh's idea and that he laid it out in Excel for me. I did do a little color/border tweaking on Monday morning before I printed it, but that's ...
Post-Modern Mommies
I won't tell you which one, but I went to a break-out session on the first day of dotMom that I was less than impressed with. It was geared towards teaching your child to have a heart for missions and I was pretty excited about it. The speaker presented a lot of useful information, but it wasn't anything I didn't already know and I was regretting not spending that time for something different. Fast forward to Saturday and I found myself in Jen Hatmaker's session called Parenting The Kids We Have, Not the Kids We Were. It was described as the "nitty-gritty of raising disciples in a post-Christian society... unpack[ing] what makes our kids' generation tick, what they love, what they hate, and how to show them Jesus in a way that won't make them puke". Can we talk about how amazing it is that ...
dotMom 2012
Last weekend I went with two friends to Lifeway's dotMOM conference in Birmingham. I knew that I was in store for a wonderful weekend, but I had no idea I would walk away with so much knowledge. The information was invaluable and I learned so much about the kind of Christian woman and intentional mother I want to be. I've spent the last few days marinating on the words I heard and processing how I want to translate them into our lives. I've re-written my notes (mostly because I'm a nerd) and reviewed scripture. It's amazing how your entire perspective on life can change in just under 48 hours. I'm not sure I can even begin to tell you all of the things I learned and how this weekend changed my life as a mother and a wife. I wish I even knew where to start! Instead, I thought I would share ...
Project 365: Week 38
Sunday, September 16 (Day 251): I stayed up late watching E.T. The Extra Terrestrial with my two best girls. We didn't get to finish it in one sitting, but they were very intrigued. They kept asking questions and were very concerned that "the man with the keys" was going to get him! Monday, September 17 (Day 252): I started Gillian Flynn book number two. So addicted to her writing. It's too bad there are only three! Tuesday, September 18 (Day 253): Ella got a few Vera Bradley bags for her birthday, but needed a cute tag with her name on them. I ordered clear, plastic luggage tags, downloaded an image of the pattern (Va Va Bloom) and whipped these up. Now I think I need to make some for me! Wednesday, September 19 (Day 253): Traffic wasn't moving AT. ALL. Need I say ...
Project 365: Week 37
Sunday, September 9 (Day 250): We had Ella's big birthday bash the Sunday before her birthday this year. She wanted a cowgirl party and it was a blast! Monday, September 10 (Day 250): This was one of those days when you're chained to your desk. I ate with one hand while I pounded out spreadsheets with another, all the while reviewing documents with a second set of eyes. Busy. Tuesday, September 11 (Day 250): Ella turned six and we took her out for breakfast before school. Josh had a football game that night and we wanted to eat at least one meal together, so we had biscuits and Dr. Peppers. For the win! Wednesday, September 12 (Day 250): Before Bible study, I met K for dinner at a new Italian place and it was delish. Thursday, September 13 (Day 250): I had a big box of graphic ...
Project 365: Week 36
Sunday, September 2 (Day 245): We spent most of the day in the airport trying to get back home from Texas. We passed the time with snacks, books and several episodes of LOST. We were exhausted by the time we reached Birmingham, but we had such a great time. Monday, September 3 (Day 246): You've already seen the results of The Color Run, but I had Kathleen snap this super sexy picture of me afterwards. Can you say drowned rat? Tuesday, September 4 (Day 247): Yikes, again?!?! Wednesday, September 5 (Day 248): Before Bible study, I ran to Target to pick up Ella's birthday present. A group of us went in together to surprise her with an iPod Touch. It was the only thing she asked for this year! Thursday, September 6 (Day 247): But I did manage to snag her these super cute pink skinny ...
Project 365: Week 35
Sunday, August 26 (Day 238): We tried sponge rollers for the first time. Monday, August 27 (Day 239): SK wasn't so sure what she thought about her first curls when she saw them in the mirror, but she finally warmed up to them. Tuesday, August 28 (Day 240): So much so, that daddy fixed her curls again on Tuesday morning. Wednesday, August 29 (Day 241): By mid-week, I was packing the girls for a long weekend with my parents while Josh & I traveled to Texas. Thursday, August 30 (Day 242): We boarded a plane to DFW and got ready to cheer on the Tide. Friday, August 31 (Day 243): Dinner at Reata was yummy. Josh caught a lot of flack for this shirt which was compared to a tablecloth, but it's one of my favs. I bought it from the Gap for him for Father's Day after he refused to ...
