Several of you have asked how the construction
at our house is going. While it is far from finished, we are making major progress. We’ve been talking about doing it for months and had an insurance adjuster out a few weeks ago to look at some damage and low and behold, they’re paying for the majority of our work. It was such a nice surprise, but it kind of kicked things into high gear. As in, they started on Monday and K had a photo shoot on Saturday and things either had to be finished or REALLY clean.
While we were here just a week ago, today things are looking like this.
As you can see, not only are we roofless on the backside of our house, but there are piles of materials everywhere. This portion of the house was poorly reconstructed by the previous owners and it never properly drained. Not only did this cause some interior leaking in our dining room, but the screened in porch had a very low roof, with major sagging and was anything but watertight.
This is the view from the backdoor. The porch is no longer screened in and has no shelter. As much as we are enjoying the sunshine back here and the difference it makes to our kitchen, we know we can’t lose the space to come in from the weather. I wish we could have a pergola instead, but we’re going to add a pretty new roof, outdoor ceiling fan and ultimately windows and a pretty glass door to make this a sun room/breakfast area off of our kitchen.
Did you notice that our roof looked a little different? The rock house used to look like this. The roof wasn’t in terrible shape when we bought the house, but we knew it would eventually have to be repaired. Thanks to a little unwanted hail damage, that happened a little sooner than we expected.
Here are a few views of the front porch roof and one of the whole house. We still need to paint or replace the gutters and paint the eaves and window trim, but I’d say things are really shaping up outside!
