I’m not sure if your brain just eradicates all memories of childbirth, maternity leave, and sleepless nights or if it was just because it had been so long since we had an infant in our home, but I had extremely unrealistic expectations of how our first month at home together would go. I had an editorial calendar planned with three post ideas a week and it honestly never occurred to me that I wouldn’t feel like / have time / want to blog at all. C-Section recovery isn’t easy (I’m still getting there) and getting to know a new person who is all of the sudden a part of your family is hard work. If I hadn’t been so excited about sharing our birth story and delivery photos with you guys a few weeks ago, this would probably be my first attempt at blogging post-Polly.
She’s a month old today and I finally feel like I have the time and energy to get a few things done while she’s napping, so we’re dipping our toes into the water this week. I’m doing some part time work from home, trying to get back into the swing of blogging, vacuuming my house (it’s been awhile), and trying to get a few things organized for fall. It’s bittersweet to come out of our cocoon, but it’s real life and we’re ready to get on with it! I doubt I’ll be blogging every day, but I’ve got some catching up to do and I’m hoping to introduce you to our Polly girl, now that her personality is starting to blossom.
Happy October, friends!
wearing | This prompt is a little tricky. Most of my maternity clothes are way too big at this point and I only have one pair of pre-pregnancy jeans that fit. I’ve invested in a week’s worth of pretty button down tops from Gap, but I’m mostly living in joggers and sweatpants. I am starting to think about a nursing friendly work wardrobe and was considering a fall nursing capsule as I begin to clean and organize my closet this week. Is that something you would be remotely interested in seeing?
collecting | More on the topic of clothes, but I’m collecting plenty of ideas for this year’s Dressember event. Do you know about that? It’s a fundraising event to bring awareness and collect donations to end modern slavery and sex trafficking. My fellow Aventura Ambassadors and I are wearing (and sharing!) a dress every day for the month of December and hoping to raise $5000 collectively. You can read more about Dressember here and we would love and appreciate any monetary support you can offer.
making | Something I haven’t made in quite some time is a meal plan. Are you guys meal planners? I’ve always found that planning our dinner menu a month at a time is super helpful for everyone in my home, but I haven’t attempted it this entire year. Morning sickness and plenty of food aversions made shopping, cooking and eating very difficult for me this year. Once Polly was here, I thought I would feel well enough to cook, but it’s kind of been hit or miss. We’re all tired of takeout and the same three easy meals, so I’m hoping to be a little more adventurous for the month of October. Whether that adventure includes tackling the grocery store with Polly again (our first attempt didn’t go so well) remains to be seen.
taking | Mostly, I’m just taking things slow. I know I’ll never get these weeks back with Polly and I’m trying not to feel guilty about our level of laziness over here. We’ve logged plenty of naps in our big bed, taking a ridiculous amount of photos that I still need to share with you, watched so many Netflix & Hulu shows (I need to make you a list!), and avoiding almost everything that hints at responsibility. There is time for all of that next year, right?
planning | I’m not usually a procrastinator when it comes to vacation and trip planning, but we’re leaving for Disney World in a little over six weeks and I haven’t done very much to get us ready. Polly does have some pretty cute things to wear (obviously), but I’m long overdue on dining plans and plane tickets. Maybe that’s what I should be doing during nap time!
