When is the last time you attempted to get five toddlers to stand still and look at the camera at the same time? My mom keeps a group of the cutest kids ever and she loves buying them matching pajamas to wear during the Christmas holidays. She invited me over to snap a photograph to gift to their parents and this was seriously the best we got. I think I took 150+ photos and there were very few where the girls were all looking in the same direction! Polly’s face right her perfectly articulates how I was feeling.
Now that I’m working from home, Polly stays at home with me a day or two a week, but it has been so helpful to have my keep her the other three to four. She looks forward to walking to Gran Camp each morning and if given the choice, always leaves me home alone. If I’m not careful, I can let the guilt creep in about sending her away while I’m at home, but Josh often reminds me that I’m not a stay-at-home mom and it’s okay to get a few hours of uninterrupted work in each day. I’m so fortunate to have eliminated three hours worth of commuting each day and now how the privilege of doing drop off and pick up each day. I try to have most of my work done by 2:30, so I can spend the afternoons with the girls — even if it means I have to finish up after they’re all in bed.
This group of the sweetest little girls is just icing on the cake. Polly talks about them all the time — Vera, Saylor Jane, Kallahan, and Kaymin — and looks forward to seeing them every single day. We had to miss a few weeks while my parents were quarantined in November and it was the looooongest two weeks of her life. She was so excited when it was finally time to go back!
