It’s been almost seventy-five days since our normal lives were suspended and, to be honest, they’re starting to run together a bit. I documented a day in our life for the Birmingham Mom’s Blog last week and rather than rewriting it here, I thought I’d share all of the photos I took throughout the day. You can head over to the post to read all about how we spent our day, but here is a glimpse — via photos — of what a typical “shelter in place” day looks like for us.
Polly’s up and we’re ready to start the day! I’m loving this mirror on our landing and can’t wait until the rest of this space is decorated and pretty — especially those stairs and carpet runner!
Polly typically eats two breakfasts — a quick yogurt squeezie and a glass of water when she first wakes up and a bigger breakfast, once I’m ready to eat. Today it was scrambled eggs (her favorite), blueberries, and a waffle.
We’ve been working on potty training for weeks. It’s going really well, in the sense that she stays dry almost all day and will go to the potty any time I take her. I thinks she’s a little young to tell me when she needs to potty, so we’ll probably be working on that for many more weeks to come.
When the big girls were still having classes at home, Polly & I went to wake them up around 9 o’clock every morning. She loves climbing the stairs by herself and can’t wait to turn on their lights. The little girls’ room has come so far since we started renovating in January, but I owe you more photos than this — we’ve rearranged furniture and artwork about seventeen more times.
We spend the majority of our days at home, in the sunroom. Polly loves looking out the windows and we added a small TV for watching our morning cartoons. I’m sure it will get to be a grownup space again one day, but for now it’s the perfect playroom/work from home headquarters.
Most days, the girls spread out for school work. This day, Sophie worked in the kitchen and Ella was curled up in a chair in our back yard.
While the big girls are occupied with school work and Polly went on a wagon ride with my mom, I watered plants and caught up on emails. I’ve had a black thumb for most of my life, but the quarantine plant purchases are now in the double digits and I haven’t lost a single one!
Polly & Sophie enjoyed a quarantine picnic while I finished up a project for work.
Daddy put together our new big girl bed* just in time for nap!
* New, as in, this is the same crib the big girls slept in. My sister was using it in her nursery when we found out we were pregnant and since Polly was in our room until the end of last summer, we haven’t had a chance to put it upstairs until now.
While Polly naps, I eat a crappy lunch and finish up my work for the day. See that beautiful fiddle? She was about 12 inches shorter when I bought her in early March. She’s had a quarantine growth spurt and is looking so pretty and tall!
After nap, Polly & I took a golf cart ride to pick up the mail and “check on things.” She begs for a ride almost every day.
This is how most of my working time looks, it’s a miracle I can get anything done!
A new mask was one of the things we grabbed from the mailbox! I’ve been wearing disposable ones, but since we’re likely to need them for several more months, I decided to order us all washable versions.
I also try to work on at least one house project every day. Ella kept Polly for an hour, while Sophie and I set up a fun little office area in her closet.
After more than eight weeks of very careful distancing, we visited my grandparents for the first time.
Ella had been begging to watch Outer Banks on Netflix for a few weeks, but when the content is questionable, we opt to watch together. I fixed her favorite dinner — veggie tortellini — and we stayed up way too late to catch a few episodes before bed.
