It’s been a long time since I recapped a weekend, but this was a good one. I didn’t take many photos, but the ones I did take were good. My small group has been planning a lake weekend for the last few months, but I wasn’t sure I could pull it off. I haven’t left Polly overnight before now and the next few weeks at home are so busy. Josh was so encouraging, so I left work a little early on Friday and met seven other girls at the most beautiful home on Lake Mitchell.
Our dear friend, Martha, was in charge of the food and it was all amazing! She made an insane charcuterie spread, chicken salad croissants, and two kinds of soup for dinner. Then for breakfast, we had breakfast sliders on hawaiian rolls (OMG) and for lunch, we ate all the leftovers from the previous two meals. We covered pretty much every topic you can conceive of, I stayed up until one o’clock in the morning, finishing up the new Margaret Atwood novel, and didn’t wear makeup or anything resembling actual clothes.
The only downside to the weekend, was that not only did I miss my Polly girl, but she threw up sometime over night and Josh had a disaster to clean up the next morning. So bad, in fact, that I had to buy an extra diffuser on my way home to help conquer the smell in their room! She seemed fine on Saturday, so we think it was just too much pizza for dinner the night before (her first experience with pizza, actually). We spent the rest of the day snuggling and watching football and making an amazing Hello Fresh pasta dish that I need to eventually share on the blog.
On Sunday, we went to the early service and the cleaned out the big girls’ closets while Polly napped. We have a trip planned next month and they both needed some winter clothes, so we did a closet assessment and ran to TJMaxx for some essentials. We spent a few hours at my cousin’s birthday party — 8 year old’s are so much fun! — and then we spent the rest of the afternoon outside with daddy. Josh has these golf flags set up in the meadow out front and spends almost every afternoon hitting golf balls until the sun goes down. All three girls love chasing him and searching for lost balls, but especially the littlest one. Every time she sees his massive golf ball collection, her eyes go wide and she grins from ear to ear. Fortunately, she can’t fit them in her mouth, because she almost always has one in each hand!
I might try my hand at weekend updates for the next several weeks, because we have a jam packed holiday season ahead. Ella and I were looking at the calendar together and I’m not sure we have a free weekend between now and New Year’s. She said, “I knew my room wouldn’t be finished before Christmas!” Maybe we’ll finally get to finish a big house project in January?
