When your 10 month birthday is the day after a national holiday, you pretty much have to dress up and post your photo a day early, right? I bought these constellation shoes for Josh for Father’s Day last year, because we didn’t know if Polly was a girl or boy and he had been obsessing over how cute these were. They came in pretty handy for July 4th and worked perfectly with our July bow from Little Poppy Co. and this ballet top from June and January. I didn’t actually buy her a patriotic outfit of any sort this year, but I kind of love how this looked!
ten months as of July 5, 2019
Height + Weight: We don’t go back to the pediatrician until she’s a year old, but I’m guessing not much has changed since last month. She’s pretty close to twenty pounds and growing.
Clothes: I look for 9 month items when they’re available, but we’re almost exclusively in 12 months clothing at this point. It’s hard to believe we can almost shop the toddler section?! She’s still wearing a size three diaper and I can’t imagine that will change much. My sister squeezed her daughter into one of our diapers yesterday and at almost 18 months, they fit pretty well.
Sleep: We are killing the sleep situation now that we’re home from vacation. We have a weekend trip away next week and I’m a little worried about how that will affect her, but we’ve settled into a new and wonderful routine since we got home from vacation. She’s sleeping almost twelve hours with one overnight nursing session (130/2) and an occasional early morning session (445/5) that usually coincides with my waking anyway. She’s still taking at least one long nap and two shorter naps, every day. She’s currently sleeping in a pack-n-play upstairs and napping in her crib during the day. If sleep continues to go well, we’ll likely swap that and move her bed upstairs later this month.
Schedule: I am mortified to admit this, but we discovered today that the nipples in her bottle are still newborn, slow flow nipples. I’m guessing that’s why she hasn’t been a huge fan of the bottle since early this year. I actually ran to Target and grabbed fast flow nipples this morning, so we’ll see how that changes her schedule. Currently, she’s nursing 4-5x a day (only when I’m at home) and takes water during the day with her meals. If changing the nipple means she’ll take a bottle better, we’ll probably go back to having one bottle during the day, which means I get to pump again… right after I had completely weaned myself during working hours. THIS IS A TOTAL MOM FAIL.
Health: Polly has two, adorable, bottom teeth and she loves to show them off! We’ve had to administer infant’s tylenol and motrin, more than I care to admit, while we were waiting on these boogers to break all the way through. She has a nasty bout of excema around her ankles and still has a patch of cradle cap right on her soft spot (where I can’t exactly scrub her head), but is otherwise the picture of health!
Crying: She hasn’t ever been much of a crier and that seems to continue as she gets older. She still cries when I lay her on the changing table and she fusses a little when we put her in bed at night, but it’s rare that she cries more than a few minutes at a time.
Likes: Polly’s likes have been pretty consistent over the last several months — she loves bath, dinner, slinging, being outside, and playing in the pool with her big sisters (last month’s answer that remains unchanged). She also loves meal time and can finally ask to nurse, which always garners the biggest grin.
Dislikes: She doesn’t love having her diaper or clothes changed, being left in the church nursery, or riding in the car for long periods of time. She also hates it when I don’t nurse her as soon as she requests it — she is very impatient (all of this remains the same, too!).
Milestones: Polly managed to survive another month without walking, but we think it’s only because she’s such a proficient crawler. She is so fast and we are finally having to look for her when she gets a little too far ahead of us. She can clap her hands, point at objects, and dance when she hears music — this is officially my favorite thing ever. She indicates when she wants to nurse (three cheers!) and recognizes so many new words — ball, book, baby, bird, up, out, eat (nurse), snack (food), paci, bed, mama, daddy, ella, sophie, gran. We’re also working on identifying facial features and while she knows I’m talking about her face when I ask about her nose, she hasn’t figured out which thing is which quite yet.
Places She’s Been: We loved taking Polly to the beach in June and introducing her to all of our favorite places. She was such a great camper and really enjoyed riding bikes and playing in the splash pad the best! We took her to our favorite ice cream shop and gave her a tiny taste, which the big girls loved. She also rode on a boat for the first time this past week and is becoming a pro at riding in shopping carts, when we’re out and about.
Mama, Daddy + Big Sisters: I feel like I repeat this answer every single month, but the fact of the matter is — we’re all still pretty obsessed. We love it when she experiences something new (like her first spaghetti dinner last week), we work hard to make her laugh, and we send photos and videos back and forth, like we’ve never seem a baby do anything before. Ella is working to convince her that snuggling is the best, she and Sophie are getting used to the idea of sharing a room, and daddy is trying to turn her into a daddy’s girl (never going to happen). I’m still lucky enough to be her favorite, but I’m guessing the tides will turn as we begin weaning her in a few more months. It makes me sad to even think about it, so I think we’re going to take it slow and continue nursing a few times a day (if she let’s me) after her birthday.
She is just the sweetest babe in all the land and we can’t get enough of her!
