Polly has officially been a member of our family for fifteen weeks and I feel like I’m finally getting a handle on taking care of a newborn… again. So much has changed since the big girls were babies and trying to choose products that we thought we might need was more than a little overwhelming. I remember feeling like we had so much stuff with our first two and I promised myself we wouldn’t do that this time around. Our initial purchases for baby were minimal and I really didn’t even register for much aside from necessities. I’ve also had plenty of friends offer recommendations and we’ve read countless reviews on-line before making any purchases — especially larger and more expensive items.
We had our first baby twelve years ago. Twelve. If video baby monitors were a thing, we either didn’t know about them or they were way outside of our price range. And eight years ago with Sophie? I’m not sure we even had a baby monitor. The girls shared a space pretty early on, so Ella alerted us to anything we needed to know about, without much prompting. I remember when my sister was expecting and shopping for monitors and they all seemed so expensive and had so many features I couldn’t imagine using. I was turning into one of those old ladies who says “back when I had babies…” Who knew I would get to do it all over again?!
When Eufy reached out a few weeks ago and offered to send us their new SpaceView Baby Monitor, we were pretty excited. Aside from Polly, it’s my favorite gift under the tree this year!
Since she’s still sleeping in our room and we likely won’t renovate the upstairs until sometime in the spring, we really haven’t even started shopping for monitors yet. Once I started reading about the SpaceView, I realized how lucky I was not to have to research this purchase after all. The monitor was super easy to set up and there are only a few items in the box — it was a matter of charging the handheld device for a few hours and plugging the camera into the wall! I think one of the reasons I’ve been hesitant about a high-tech camera is having to worry about mounting it somewhere, when Polly is still a little nomad in our home. The Eufy camera is so small, that I’ve been moving it from room to room, depending on where we’ve set up camp. I can keep an eye on her when she’s sleeping in her room, but easily move the camera to the living room, where she swings while I cook dinner.
You can find all of the features on their website, but here are a few of my favorite things:
- The handheld display is so similar in size to my iPhone — the picture is clear and the 5″ screen makes it easy to see exactly what I’m looking for.
- It comes with an add-on wide-angle lens that you can snap on to view the entire room. This isn’t necessary now, but once she’s walking and living upstairs, I’ll be able to see her entire bedroom on-screen at once.
- Speaking of entire bedrooms — the lens pans 330 degrees and tilts 110 degrees, all with the push of a button!
- You can easily switch to night vision, making it easy to keep an eye on them after dark.
- There is a built-in thermostat that displays right on screen.
- The built-in microphone and speaker give you the ability to communicate with baby, no matter where you are inside your home.
I don’t know why she’s grinning so big — this monitor means I’m going to be tracking her every move. At least I don’t have to worry about missing a single second of her life. Can you tell we’re just a little bit obsessed — with both the baby and the monitor!
