I asked you guys on Instagram a few weeks ago, if you preferred straightforward product reviews or if you liked having our favorite products integrated into lifestyle posts. It was really interesting to me that the response was pretty much split, but I got great feedback from so many mamas and the bottom line was — you wanted to see what baby products we’re loving. Today’s featured product is one we received in exchange for review, but it’s also one I can enthusiastically endorse. I had a pregnant mama approach me while I was filming a short video at the grocery store (how is that for embarrassing?!) and ask me to show her how it worked and if we loved it. I can assure you I’m not filming videos, in very public places, for products we don’t love and use frequently!
In case I didn’t mention it, Polly hated the car seat for the first several weeks of her life. It’s pretty complicated to navigate almost any public place, if you can’t use a car seat or stroller to contain your kiddo. Newborns are floppy and unpredictable, so it’s not like you can just carry them around in one hand. I tried wearing her in a sling the first few times we grocery shopped, but I was still really sore and found it to be exhausting. I ended up resorting to grocery pick-up instead, but sometimes you just want to get out of the house! Enter the Binxy Baby Shopping Cart Hammock.
There are several things I love about this product, but one of the coolest things — to me — is its story. The creator of this genius product was a mom looking for a solution to the nightmare that is grocery shopping with babies. On the off chance you aren’t a mother or haven’t ever considered this conundrum, it’s a pain to take your infant carrier on the journey. It is no longer recommended to sit them on top of the cart, but if you place the car seat inside your cart, there isn’t any room left for groceries. The alternative is shopping in pairs, so that someone else can man the baby or your regular stroller, but that almost never happens for me.
This Shopping Cart Hammock stretches across the width of the cart and creates a sling for baby to relax inside. There is a safety harness to keep baby safe and velcro straps on either end to secure the ends in place. Since it supports up to 50 pounds of weight, you could also sit your entire infant carrier on top and secure it with a longer strap to keep it in place. The best part about using the hammock, is that you have your entire cart available for groceries — there is plenty of room to slide items underneath the hammock and you can easily see over the baby, unlike when we used to ride with them on top of the cart.
Another bonus? It even fits the monstrous carts at Target — just secure it to the lower railing, instead of the thicker grey bar at the top.
Check out our short video below, where you can see the hammock in action.
Thank you, Binxy Baby, for saving this mama’s sanity at the grocery store every week!
