I might only be sharing a monthly bumpdate, but I’m still taking weekly photos to share on Instagram — and to preserve for the baby book — so I figured I would catch up at the beginning of each update post. Here are our weekly photos since we last checked on baby.
I knew this pregnancy would fly by — that’s what always happens when you swear you’re going to enjoy every minutes of something. Since we got back from the beach, I feel like life has been at breakneck speed. Our schedule and to-do list has been so full and even though it’s all been good stuff, it’s a little overwhelming. I’m going to take a slightly different approach to the remaining pregnancy updates (THERE ARE ONLY TWO LEFT?!) and I’ll be back in a few days to share a little more about my current state of mind.
BODY + HEALTH
Let’s just go ahead and start with the elephant in the room — I’m wearing a boot on my right foot, as of this morning. I fell down our inside steps last night and was hoping a sprain or jammed toe was all I was dealing with, but my foot was swollen and bruised when I woke up this morning and I can’t put any pressure on it. Fortunately, I only went down three of four steps before I caught myself and was able to keep my hands underneath me the entire time. The baby is fine — we’ve had plenty of movement since the fall, my belly isn’t tender, and I’ve talked to both my GP and my OB this morning. My doctor was pretty hesitant to give me an x-ray, so we don’t have a definitive diagnosis. It’s either a severely sprained/strained/torn ligament or a fracture somewhere just below my toes. Since I can’t take anything stronger than Tylenol the treatment is same, I get to live in a boot for 2-6 weeks, depending on when I can begin to put weight on it. Let me assure you, an 8 month pregnant lady wearing a boot, is a sight to behold!
I was already slowing down big time at the gym — I had a few days last week that really made me question how I could keep working out. On Monday, I felt fantastic and my OB told me yesterday that my blood pressure was low and everything else looked great, so I was clear to workout as long as I felt like it. Fast forward to today and my gym membership is officially on hold until after delivery. Whomp whomp. I’m thinking about incorporating some yoga and upper body weights to help compensate, but I’m pretty bummed about being out of the gym for 12-14 weeks.
EMOTIONS
Emotionally, I’m pretty much the same — a little weepier than normal and I probably have a much shorter temper while pregnant, but I’m working on it. I actually read a really great parenting book this week that has given me so much perspective and I’m planning to share it with you guys in a few more days. I’m still pretty teary when I think about the girls meeting the baby, but I’m not sure that will change between now and delivery!
JOSH + THE GIRLS
They are all still taking such good care of me — we were at the beach over the weekend and I don’t think I lifted a finger for three straight days. They are all so excited to meet this little one and it’s been fun to see how differently they all react to me and the baby. Ella reminds me so much of Josh in this situation. She’s very stoic and tight-lipped and even though they are both really excited, I know how much more real it will be for them once we deliver. Sophie is the complete and total opposite. She is as invested in this pregnancy process as I am and constantly wants to have her hands on me. She’s the one who feels the baby move most, checks on me throughout the day, and always gives us both a goodnight kiss!
ALL THE OTHER THINGS
I had my 32 week appointment yesterday and it was weird to talk about all the late-term things. We picked a date for my c-section (what?!?!), booked our remaining OB appointments while I was in the office, and discussed my options for birth control moving forward. Josh is a little hesitant for me to have my tubes tied, but I’m ready to discuss something very permanent. If you’ve had any form of tubal ligation/sterilization, I’d love to know your experience and if you had any adverse side effects (Josh’s biggest concern). My doctor also scheduled me for non-stress tests at my remaining appointments, just to make sure that baby is thriving the closer we get to delivery.
Now let’s do that traditional bumpdate post where I fill in all the blanks. I wanted to write more of a narrative post to remember these months, but I thought it would be fun to preserve a few of those things now that we’re really close to delivery!
How Far Along Are You? 32 Weeks today!
Total Weight Gain: 12 lbs total — I gained 32 and 37 with the girls, so I’m thrilled to know I might stay under 20 pounds this time. It wasn’t by design — I have not been watching what I eat and aside from working my butt off in the gym every week, not much is different about my eating habits. I lose six pounds during the first trimester and didn’t break even until 20 weeks, so I’m sure that had a lot to do with how much I’ve gained.
Maternity Clothes? Ummm, yes. I’ve been wearing mostly maternity clothes since the ten week mark. Baby number three did not hide him/herself from us!
Stretch Marks? I have a few on my lower belly, but I’m pretty sure they are from a previous pregnancy. I’ve been lucky this time that my body hasn’t undergone too many changes.
How Are You Sleeping? Sleep is tricky. It takes me longer to fall asleep and if I ever wake up, it takes a while to fall back asleep, but when I am sleeping it’s good. I wake up every morning feeling like I slept for a million hours and it’s really helping to keep feeling good during the day. I have had crazy terrible leg cramps this entire pregnancy and it’s getting significantly harder to roll over in the middle of the night, but those are a small price to pay for deep sleep.
Best Moment of the Week? Being at the beach with the girls on Sunday was pretty fantastic and my small group threw me a sprinkle on Monday evening, which was also super fun!
Worst Moment of the Week? I think we can all agree that the tumble down the stairs and subsequent walking boot is most definitely the low spot for me this week.
Obsessing Over: All of the baby gifts that keep arriving! My mom bought my travel system during Amazon Prime Day and I got a shipment full of maternity gowns and baby blankets this week that are so very cute. I’ll share a few of them on Instagram tomorrow and a packing post very soon.
Movement? So. Much. Movement. This baby is probably the most active of my three and it’s favors the same area of my belly at all times. Josh and I are convinced we saw a foot on Sunday night and the area around my belly button is so sore from all the kicking.
Food Cravings: Still tacos, guacamole and honey crisp apples. This baby is nothing, if not consistent.
Belly Button In or Out? So very out and visible through almost everything I wear.
Things I Will Miss Least About Pregnancy? Nose bleeds, leg cramps, sleeping on my side, not being able to reach my toes.
Things I Will Miss Most About Pregnancy? Baby kicks and hiccups, the lack of hair on my legs (HALLELUJAH!), and all the special treatment from my friends and family.
Gender? We still don’t know and it’s THE BEST. People ask about it all the time and are always so surprised when we reveal that we aren’t finding out. I wish we had done this with the girls and I would do it a hundred more times, if necessary. I am so much more excited about delivery day and can’t wait to share the news with everyone once baby arrives!
It’s hard to tell how similar or different my belly is in this month’s comparison shot, but can certainly discuss all of the other differences! My face was so much fuller with Sophie than with this baby, it’s weird to see myself with short blonde hair, and WHAT WAS I THINKING with that outfit?! Guys, the maternity clothes I wore nine years ago is probably the most shocking thing about looking at these photos.
