We were greeted with rain clouds and an impending tropical storm on Monday morning, but instead of complaining about our possible inclement weather, let me tell you all the reasons why our Memorial Day was perfect.
| Ella has a newfound love of cooking and has been killing it in the kitchen since school let out. This is the second pasta salad she’s made in the last week and they were both delicious! She asked me this weekend if she could be in charge of prepping dinner over the summer break. Ummm, yes, please.
| While daddy went to the gym and I finished up in the kitchen, these two enjoyed breakfast and a few episodes of Survivor in our bed. They have started watching back seasons and are so into it. We have laughed a lot about how competitive they are and their predictions are so funny!
| We had no idea that Monday was National Burger Day, but our meal fell right in line. Josh is on an anti-chicken tirade and we have a freezer full of local beef that we bought last fall. We opted for burgers with arugula, havarti, bacon, fried onion strings and homemade Alabama White Sauce. Guys, this was the best burger I’ve had since Shake Shack.
| There might have been rain showers in the forecast, but it did not prevent all of our favorite people from joining us around the pool. My mom set the food up in the barn and we had plenty of room on the porch during the rain. The men stayed inside most of the afternoon — playing cards and hovering around the buffet — but they came out to say hello occasionally.
| All of my favorite kiddos were in one place! Vera spent much of the day in her swing or being passed around, while all of the big kids braved the water. They didn’t seem to care that it was unusually cool outside or that the sun barely peeked from behind the clouds, they were just happy for no thunder or lightning and plenty of pool toys!
| It’s never been cool enough for a fire on Memorial Day, but my mom broke out the s’more supplies, so we couldn’t resist!
| I am SO GLAD that my sweet tooth has returned during the second trimester! I’m still being as careful as I can about what I’m eating, but this s’more and a scoop of homemade strawberry shortcake really hit the spot.
As much as I’m enjoying my mom lob of a haircut, I knew I needed a little more length before baby arrived. I know myself and I’m going to desperately need a ponytail as delivery day approaches and I want to be able to pull my hair back in the hospital. I’ll likely get it chopped again before returning to work, but I’m enjoying fun buns for now!
| I’m kind of struggling with what to wear this summer and I hate spending too much on maternity clothes that I know (like, really for real, know this time) I won’t ever wear again. I’ve decided that cut off denim shorts, vintage concert tees, and comfy tanks are all I plan to wear this summer. I got this super cute tank from Pink Blush a few weeks ago and I can’t tell you how many times I’ve already worn it (psssst, it comes in three other colors!). It is so thin and perfectly stretchy and works just as well with bathing suit bottoms as it does with dress pants and a cardigan. It’s extra long right now, which means it should make the cut later this pregnancy, when my belly is officially out of control. I’m currently shopping more tops and tees for later in pregnancy because most of my early purchases are starting to sneak up my belly?! What was your favorite maternity item for the third trimester? I need a little more inspiration for dressing the bump for summer!
