Let me go ahead and apologize, because (a) nobody really wants to hear about Christmas on January 4th and (b) there are 42 photographs in this post. Yes, I could have whittled them down to a handful, but then I would feel the need to write eighteen paragraphs to explain why we had the best Christmas ever. Instead, you can just see how much fun it was (even though the photos aren’t so great) and I’ll keep the words to a minimum.
Christmas comes in many waves for us, but the three most important ones occur on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and (usually) the day after. I never understand what you do when you only have a single day off for the holidays, because I intend to live in my pajamas for as long as possible. I hoard my vacation days for the entire year and can’t remember a time when I didn’t have ten+ consecutive days at home with the girls. We were so lazy this year and I took zero photographs outside of these three days, but boy did we have the best time ever.
On Christmas Eve, we have brunch with Josh’s parents and the cousins all open their gifts. This is pretty much a Santa-level giving situation, so we come prepared with an empty truck and plenty of trash bags.
Notable according to Ella: black Sperry boots, Gap gift card and all the makeup.
Notable according to Sophie: art kit that she cannot stop talking about.
Notable according to the parents: no scary kid makeup or products (thank you, Nana!) and tickets to see the Eagles in April.
Christmas is just the best. After we got the girls tucked in bed, Sophie texted me to say we forgot cookies and milk. She made me promise to leave them out and later requested that I text her a photo as proof. Ha! Of course, they were up at the crack of dawn and we opened gifts in the dark. When will that not be a thing? We walked next door in our pajamas for Christmas breakfast and had plenty of time to cook and listen to records before lunch at my uncle’s house, later that afternoon. We played cards until midnight and slept a full twelve hours. That’s good stuff!
Notable according to Josh: a surprise record player and his current favorite album.
Notable according to Kristin: Madewell jeans that are so snug, but have the cutest button fly.
Notable according to Ella: a panda onesie that was actually the cheapest thing I bought and permission to wear makeup, except to school.
Notable according to Sophie: the telescope was fine, but DID YOU KNOW SHE GOT A MINI-FRIDGE?!
Notable according to Scoop: all the knot toys that get to be untied and a dog bed that is only cool if Sophie gets in it first.
We usually spend the morning after Christmas with my parents and my sister, but Josh had to work and Tuesdays are his busiest day and yada yada yada, we moved it to Wednesday. We spent hours snuggling Vera, eating all the breakfasts foods and praying that the kids didn’t get a concussion.
Notable according to Ella, Sophie & Hudson: SKATEBOARDS
Notable to Kristin: my sister took photos and I never even got out my camera
Notable to everyone else: custom house portraits that they knew nothing about (I win Christmas!)
Merry Christmas, friends!
