It’s been a long time since I shared any pages from my Bible here and, really, even longer since I spent a significant amount of time meditating on those pages. My relationship with the Bible has always ebbed and flowed — not my relationship with the words themselves, just how intentional I have been about making time to spend with it. Bible Journaling offered a new way of devoting that time and it helped to focus my racing mind and really pay attention to what the word were saying. I think I expected journaling to bring with it a consistency that I was lacking and while it did serve to rekindle that passion in my life, I think I will always struggle with routine and focus. I have missed spending extended moments in the Word over the summer, though, and I’m eager to back to a place where I’m spending daily time reading, meditating, and creating in response.
In late April, I started journaling my way through the Psalms. I didn’t journal every day, more like two or three days a week. I didn’t carry any journaling supplies with me on our vacation, so I got out of that habit during June and never picked it back up. I’m excited to dive into Psalms again next week and hope to share an update post for you every month or so, until I complete the book. I journaled every page of an Old Testament book in my previous Bible and loved how full of color it was! I can’t wait to see what Psalms looks like when every page is complete. Some of these pages had already been journaled when I started, so I only added a number or a few lines of commentary. There are a few blank pages where chapters ran over onto several pages, and I intend to fill those with color washes or collages at some point in the future.
For those of you interested, since I’m not working through a devotional about the Psalms, I just do a web search for the chapter I’m reading and look for a sermon, article, or on-line devotional to help prompt my journaling. It’s been fun to read from different pastors and authors about different Psalms and I look forward to continuing that process as I move forward!
