It’s time for the bathroom portion of our camper tour. I know it’s weird, but this tiny space is one of my very favorites in the entire camper! To help familiarize you with each space as we talk about it, I’ll include an image of our floor plan in each post. The pink area below is the bathroom, just at the end of the kitchen on your left.
Here’s where it gets tricky. Before photos are very difficult because the space is so small. In fact, the part of the bathroom I most want to show you is directly across from the toilet, but it was near impossible to get a wide enough shot to fully demonstrate what it looked like before Josh gutted it. You’ll just have to trust me when I tell you the after is much better.
My plan for this room was to freshen it up with paint and to place some shelving or storage inside the bathtub. We use a bathhouse at the campground where we vacation, so we’ve never had a need to use the one inside our camper. Maybe it would come in handy down the road, but with big kids I don’t think we’ll ever regret removing it. I had resigned myself to making do with the shelves-in-the-shower system, but Josh came out one day and started tearing things apart. He decided it was worth it to create a mess, if we could have way more storage inside!
I removed the mirrored medicine cabinet door in favor of a wall mounted mirror instead. It gives us easily accessible shelves above the sink (no more swinging doors!) and I can actually see myself in the new mirror (the other one was way too high). We found a tabletop mirror for the girls and called it a day.

We debated how to finish out the walls — patch the holes (there was plumbing here, remember), replace the wall panels with similar vinyl paneling, or replace it with something else. Ultimately, we decided to hang primed bead board panels and give them a coat of white paint to match.

The only change we’ve made since being at the beach is the trashcan. As much as I love the way the aluminum can looks in the bathroom, it doesn’t function well enough. In the camper, we need everything to be super functional, no matter how pretty (or not) it looks. We were fighting to get the bag out of the can and Josh finally called it quits. For now, we’re operating with a bag hanging on a hook, but I’ll be on the lookout for something attractive looking that is wide enough to function well and doesn’t have a lid. Maybe something like this?
The only other update I’m still planning for is to replace the bathroom faucet. It is plastic, with awful smoky acrylic knobs, and I hate it. I honestly just ran out of time to replace it before our trip, but something like this in on my radar for later this summer.
We got super lucky in the shelving department. We talked about building out shelves here, but I really wanted something metal that would be easy to wipe down and have no risk of water damage. I looked everywhere for a set that would fit and finally found this metal unit at Ikea. It fits with less than a half inch of clearance on either side — it was totally meant to be! I love that the shelves have holes in them, so if our bath products or towels are wet, it easily drains.
