I seriously considered sharing this post as a DIY, but we’re only a week away from Christmas and I’m guessing you already have your wrapping supplies in hand, right? Instead, I snapped a few photos of some of my favorite packages and thought I would share how we’re decorating our Christmas gifts this year!
I saw a comment on another blog earlier in the week that asked if holiday decorations in every room and over the top wrapping was a blogger thing. I guess it’s possible that some bloggers spend all of that time and money just for content, but that isn’t how things go down at my house. The January before I was married (in August), some of my mom’s girlfriends threw me a holiday themed wedding shower. They each bought me ornaments, holiday dishes and plenty of decor during the after Christmas sales and it was one of the best pre-wedding parties I had all year. If you have engaged ladies in your life, I highly recommend it! When Josh and I set up our home that year, I had many rubbermaid bins filled with holiday decor and I had the best time decking the halls. I promise you that even if I wasn’t posting pictures for the world to see, we’d be dressing up every single room and I would be spending way too much time thinking about gift wrap. I adore every part of this season!
All of my wrapping supplies came from Homegoods and Target this year! I was on the hunt for brightly colored, graphic papers and fun embellishments. I’ll admit to wishing I had bought multiples of every roll because these would look much better in our home next season (post renovation), but I’m enjoying them all the same! I filled a basket from the dollar aisle several weeks ago and came away with patterned washi tape, glitter garlands, paper place cards, jingle bells and bottle brush trees. The mini index cards were on the school supply aisle and were only a few dollars for fifty (I think). They already have a hole punched, so they make the perfect gift tag to tie or tape to your gift!
You’ll likely be able to see a progression in the lighting of these photos as you move through the post. Ella and I spent last Sunday afternoon wrapping gifts on the sunroom floor, while chasing daylight!
She desperately wanted to use these cotton poms, so we glued them to this paper with some white glue. It’s a fun embellishment for little recipients, but it’s not too precious and doesn’t make the gift hard to open. We just covered the hole in the tags with washi tape when we didn’t want to tie them on.
I forgot to buy a roll of solid paper this year and I usually try to keep at least one in my stash! Solid papers are fun to write and draw on and are a great backdrop for fun embellishments, too. Instead, we flipped a patterned paper on it’s back and used the white backing instead. It seemed a little transparent, but once it was securely taped, you could tell at all! We added a few of the glittery stars from our garland and added a simple tag.
For the girls, I used one pattern of paper for all of their gifts. I put tags on a few of them, but it will make it much easier to sort on Christmas morning, tags or not. We debated not labeling any of them, but they begged for days to know whose gifts were whose. I think this wired garland is usually reserved for trees and decor, but I love how it looks wrapped around gift boxes. You can easily cut it with kitchen scissors and either twist the ends together or secure with a piece of tape.
These paper place cards from the dollar spot are so cute and I love the extra dimension. I ran bakers twine behind the raised portion and added a few mini jingle bells to the end of the tie. I might have purchased every pack of these place cards at my local Target. Twice!
I bought the bottle brush trees for something else entirely, but I couldn’t resist tying a few on my gift tags. I drew a simple car at the bottom of the tags, added an extra punch right in the middle and tied the tree on top. How cute is that?!
Ella helped me make a few tags with washi tape and these little graphic trees were my favorites! We added names to the back of them, because they were too cute to mess up.
Lights might not me the most practical of gift wrapping ideas, but these mini LED sets were only a dollar and we had the batteries already. I haven’t been leaving the lights on under the tree, but it will be fun to switch them all on for Christmas morning. The llama paper is Sophie’s and we’ve both gotten a big kick out of singing Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-llama.
The white bows and mitten gift toppers were Sugar Paper embellishments from last season, that I found on clearance after the holidays. I’ve been hoarding them in our gift drawer to use this year. I highly recommend grabbing all sorts of goodies after the season is over, since they are so much cheaper!
Let’s keep the conversation going. How do YOU wrap your gifts each year? Do you use themed paper or stick with a single color scheme? Choosing wrapping paper each year is one of my favorite ways to plan for the holidays! Still need ideas for wrapping this year? These free printable gift tags from last year were a really big hit!
