Dear Friends, Today is the day we write letters! I write letters to my husband and to my children, letters to inanimate objects and even letters to ideas. When all I have to say can be contained in a few of sentences, they show up on the blog in letter form. I used to write letters every week and although I’m not sure why I ever stopped, I miss them! I’ll be sharing a letter-filled post with you here, on the second Friday of every month, and I’m hoping that YOU will write a few letters of your own. They can be serious or silly, heartbreaking or hilarious. You can share one letter or one hundred, just be sure to send us coffee in exchange.
Dear Election Season, Good riddance. I do not mean to ignore your importance, but I need a break from the rhetoric. I’m tired of reading opinion pieces and explanations and heavily skewed media reports. I’m tired of having to change the channel when my daughters enter the room and I’m tired of being overly emotion. Let’s just take a break, okay?
Dear Facebook, You know what I said to the election season? Well, that goes double for you. I’m thinking about closing my wall to the public, heavily filtering my news sources, and unfollowing 87% of my friends. I shared a few things with you over the summer and learned that people don’t actually read what you share. They spot the first buzzword, leave a nasty comment, and skip off into oblivion. My conservative friends think I’m a mean liberal and my liberal friends think I’m a crackpot conservative, meanwhile I’m over here singing Come Together. But really, I’m going to stop checking on you so often.
Dear Master Bedroom Shower, You could use some assistance. I almost burn myself every time I turn you on, but then freeze to death long before I’m done. Your water pressure is no help at all and you are way too tall for my curtain. Get yourself together.
Dear Counterweight Pulley Lights, You are everything I dreamed you would be. Although you shipped from a foreign land and declared yourself incommunicado, you decided to show up three weeks early. Sometimes, unannounced guests are the greatest! We might need to fix the wall a bit where you’re hanging, but it is nice to be able to see my husband after four o’clock in the afternoon.
Dear Ella, You are amazing. I’m sorry that I couldn’t come to the Veteran’s Day program yesterday, but my teacher friends kept me well informed. Ms. Mitchell said you were all prepped and ready to go, Aunt Caycie videotaped your entire speech (way to go!), and Mrs. Martin sent me the sweetest photo of you standing on your tippy toes at the podium. Sweet girl, you are so brave. Always remember that little girls grow up to be strong women and you are poised to move mountains.
Dear Sophie, That little piano pep talk made a world of difference this week, huh? I want you to fall in love with music and see that you are so capable when you work hard. I love hearing those happy little scales filter down the stairs at night. Keep up the good work.
Dear Piano Practice Chart, YOU WERE A GAME CHANGER. You with your seven days of stickers and promises of prizes. Why didn’t we join forces earlier?
Dear Allergy Testing, Can you please play nice? Sophie might be oblivious, but I know what we’re in for. Food allergies are no joke and I was hoping we could avoid you. On the flipside, if you can make our girl feel better and eliminate even ten percent of the drama, I will love you forever.
Dear Fall Television, You are so good to me. I’m sad that we had to forfeit This is Us for election coverage last week, but that just means I’m extra excited about Tuesday. Survivor is finally getting good and Vikings will be back before we know it! I’m still on the fence about The Crown, but I’m going to give it a few more episodes before I decide.
Dear Sister, I am still swooning over these family photographs and I’m not sure I’ll ever get enough. You captured us so perfectly and helped us to preserve the sweetest of memories. We make a pretty fabulous team.
Dear Women’s Retreat, I’m kind of a nervous wreck. Don’t fall apart if I lose my place in my notes or my voice starts to waver, okay? I’m super excited about sharing my heart and my Bible, but I wish I could use the deer filter in real life.
