I don’t even know how to catch you up on all that has happened in the last few weeks months. Honestly, I feel like I’ve barely been surviving. Instead of dwelling on how terrible at life I’ve been, we’re just going to start over today. Like right now, this very moment, I’m just claiming a reset on life. Who’s with me? If you’ve been reading here from the beginning then you’ll know I used to write a series of letters to help recap smaller moments that don’t always necessitate their own post. I’ve been doing some updates on the back end of my blog, which led me to read a ton of old content. Those little letters were some of my favorite posts ever, so I’m thinking they need a resurrection. Let’s start right away!
Dear Old Content, I complained a lot while I reviewed your 1600+ blog posts. After a few broken links and some random errors, I decided to update every single blog post I’ve ever written and make sure it was up to date and properly formatted. I have squeezed that editing into lunch breaks, commercial breaks, and middle of the night can’t sleeps, but it’s finally done. I discovered that I really love you. There are so many hilarious posts that I had forgotten about and looking at your tiny, baby humans is never a bad idea.
Dear High School Homecoming, I’m sorry we didn’t get to enjoy you as much as you’re used to. We just couldn’t devote the time to participating in all of your activities this year. Instead, we dressed up for spirit week and watched the pregame festivities, but I hope we’re back at full steam next year. Thank you for delivering the best (and consequently worst) cheese fries in all the land.
Dear Nerd Day, You are officially my favorite. We decided to acquire all the things and do you up right this year. We proudly sported our suspenders and knee socks and looked as adorable as ever.
Dear Sophie, I’m sorry you hated nerd day. I’m sorry that you cried after these photographs were taken and begged to change clothes. I’m not sorry that I said no — mainly because you looked adorable, but also because you stopped crying as soon as you saw your friends looked just as silly as you did. Sometimes, mothers really do know best.
Dear Rock House owners, You were amazing to work with over the last month. Thanks for being patient with us and for loving our sweet little cottage as much as we did. Things to note: you’ll need a hammer drill to hang art on the walls, this is the most fertile acre in all the land, buy earplugs because band camp is really loud.
Dear Packing Pod, You are the coolest invention ever. We didn’t want to spend money on movers and since we need to store our belongings for several months, you were the perfect fit. We’re sorry that we wasted our money on you too soon and sorry you sat in the yard, ignored, for almost three whole weeks.
Dear Huggable Hangers, The almost triple digits I spent on you was well worth it. After having an early morning panic attack over fitting my clothes into the new closet, you welcomed me with your soft grey velvet and slim profile. Thank you for making my closet dreams come true.
Dear 100 year old house, How about a sarcastic thank you for the work you required in October? Soft floors in the laundry room? Check. Outdated electrical? Check. Chipping lead paint on the window trim? Check, check, check. We pretty much poured our savings into you over the last six weeks, but that doesn’t mean we won’t miss you tremendously. You are adorable and took great care of our family for almost thirteen years.
Dear Pear Tree, Was it really necessary to throw another limb into our front yard right in the middle of the selling process? We had enough to do without a ten hour day devoted to chainsaws and wheelbarrows and cursing your terrible timing.
Dear Grove Collaborative, Thank you for delivering natural products to my doorstep without me having to remember or do anything myself. These rosemary scented products are officially my favorite, but I’m looking forward to grabbing something more holiday scented for my next delivery. I might not get to pull out all of my holiday decorations this year (#renovationproblems), but that doesn’t mean our new home can’t smell delicious.
Dear Walmart Grocery Pickup Services, You are also my favorite. You might not carry organically sourced meat or my favorite paleo products, but you can rock produce and pantry staples with the best of them. Thank you for keeping me away from unnecessary beauty products, more storage containers and kitschy endcap items that I don’t even need. You packed my trunk full of everything I needed for almost half of what I usually spend.
Dear Walmart Grocery Pickup Services, Let’s work on your substitution skills. Giving me a double sized bag of Starbuck’s coffee for the price of the smaller bag is perfectly fine. Substituting crunchy peanut butter for creamy is NOT COOL.
Dear Alabama Football, Thank you for delivering every single time. We might have bought fake tickets by mistake (that’s a long story), but we still had a fantastic time cheering from the fence line.
Dear Adorable Wedge Booties, Even though you are so cute and your gum soles make you super comfortable, you were not meant to be stood in for hours upon hours. The next time we accidentally buy fake tickets, I WILL NOT WEAR YOU, because getting kicked out of your seats and being forced to stand at the fence line makes for amazing blisters on your middle toe.
Dear New House, I might have lived in you for eleven-ish years already, but you are totally new to me. Living in your childhood home as an adult is a completely different experience and it’s one I’m totally looking forward to.
Dear Parents, Thank you for the opportunity to live here all over again. Thank you for indulging all of our plans, knowing that the house will look completely different in six months. Thank you for letting us shack up for the holidays and for being the best future neighbors in the whole world. I cannot wait for this newest adventure with you!
When I started writing these letters long ago, there were several link ups, but I can’t seem to find one anywhere! Is a series of monthly letters something you would enjoy. Would you write YOUR OWN letters and share them with us here? I’m toying around with a monthly link up, so let me know if that is something you would enjoy. xo
UPDATE: I am so going to host a link up. Would you join me here on the second Friday of every month to share your letters? You can write one or ten and address them to anyone you like. Tell your friends and share on social media, because the more the merrier!
