I know I told you it was a one-post kind of week for me, but I hated not to share this adorable DIY costume before the weekend. It is altogether possible that we snapped photos of the finished costume on the way to school this morning and highly likely that we used makeup wipes to remove the lipstick in the carpool line. We are THAT family.
When it comes to Halloween costumes, Ella always leans towards simple and comfortable. When she was younger, we often opted for a character driven birthday party that later birthed a Halloween costume. Now that she’s older (ten, what?!), she prefers something a little less over-the-top. While Sophie tends to reflect on what she wants to be and I ultimately have to shove encourage her forward, Ella is pretty decisive and knows exactly what she wants! Although she came up with this idea weeks ago, it has taken me until days before Halloween to pull it all together (#procrastinatorsunite). We managed to pull off this Last Minute Taylor Swift Halloween Costume just under the wire, but it’s definitely one of our favorite costumes ever!

What you’ll need: Eighties inspired sweatshirt (ours is last season, but try this or these) | distressed skinny jeans | sneakers | wayfarer sunglasses | red lipstick | foam board | sharpie marker.
What you’ll do: Our foam board measured 30×40 and we planned to cut it using a utility knife to resemble the shape of a polaroid photo frame. I’ll save you the trouble of figuring out the measurements and tell you exactly what we did! I played around with the proportions a bit, but ultimately decided that a four inch border on the top and sides would be wide enough to stay sturdy, but thin enough for Ella to hold onto with no problems. Doubling the bottom border seemed too heavy, so we split the difference and worked with a six inch border there. I marked the cut lines above with a dotted line, which will leave you a large piece of foam board in the shape of the light pink square. We could have used a projector to trace the letters and numbers on the frame, but I decided to freehand them based on the album cover and it worked out perfectly!
Details: Ella’s hair is pretty thick and wavy, so to make it sleeker and more like TSwift’s bob, we straightened it pretty heavily and pinned the front back out of her face. Add some red lips and dark sunglasses and you are ready to go! How adorable does she look?! And when she’s ready to relax and enjoy her candy, she can ditch the photo frame and still be wearing something comfy and cute!
PIN THIS EASY DIY FOR NEXT YEAR’S HALLOWEEN!
Did you miss our DIY Unicorn Costume earlier this year? Thank goodness Ella went with something simple, because Sophie’s unicorn mane took much longer to make. You might not want to tackle this with less than a week before the big day, so pin it for next year!
