Remember that one time I said I was going to post a Five on Friday post every single week this summer? Well, vacation does not lend itself to blogging, so I took a little hiatus. I will tell you that I spent several hours last night working on my editorial calendar and organizing photos and I have the rest of this month and next month all planned out. Here’s to hoping I can stay on track!
001 | THE BEACH
Our beach trip was kind of amazing. It was so unscheduled and we worked hard to just be present with the kids and say “no” as little as possible and it really paid off. We missed a few things that we normally squeeze in somewhere, but in their place were new restaurants and new adventures and lots of wonderful moments with our girls. It might take another week to edit all of the photos and vlog footage we shot over the course of two weeks, but I promise to share all of the details here soon. For now, you can scroll through our more spontaneous moments here.
002 | THE TATTOO
I’m pretty sure I told you months and months ago that I wanted to get a tattoo this year, but I’m not sure you believed me. Heck, I didn’t really believe myself. I can’t wait to share all of the details surrounding this spontaneous adventure, but for now I thought I show you a few iPhone photos. I knew I wanted a small, dainty arrow bracelet and I wanted it to be hand-drawn and imperfect. It really is very “me” and I couldn’t be happier. It’s healing up pretty nicely, but I still have some scaly, peeling skin. I’m hoping it will be bright and smooth in a few more days.
003 | THANK YOU!
I just wanted to say thank you to everyone who commented here and over on Instagram about last week’s Bible Journaling post. I didn’t set out to be so vulnerable, but once I started writing, I couldn’t stop. It was no coincidence that I shared it while we were traveling. I figured if I got any pushback, at least I wouldn’t have to deal with it for another week. Instead, I got an early morning text message from a sweet friend and the kind words just kept on coming. You guys are just the best.
004 | GORGONZOLA CREAM SAUCE
Last week at the beach, we stumbled upon a new-to-us food truck. I’ll share all of the details about that meal a little later this month, but just know that the burger made it into my top five burgers, easily. My mom, sister and I all got a burger topped with garlic aioli, arugula, bacon, fried onion straws and gorgonzola cream sauce. We are still talking about that burger ten days later. My sister’s birthday was on Tuesday and we had plans to grill out around the pool, so my mom made it her mission in life to recreate the sauce. You. Guys. You need this in your life yesterday. Try Ina Garten’s recipe here and tell me your life isn’t changed.
005 | BROTHER COUSIN
Can we talk about this little nugget for just a second? One of the best parts of a family camping adventure is that we hang out pretty much all day. I woke up hours before my crew, so I would wander over to my parents’ camper for breakfast and was daily greeted by this little guy. My sister and I had close boy cousins when we were young and they are much more like brothers than cousins. That is exactly how our kids act towards one another, so we lovingly refer to each other as brother and sister cousins. Since we got home, I have missed seeing all of my extended family on a daily basis. I got so many snuggles from this little guy and it’s weird not waking up to that face. When I dropped the girls off on Wednesday, he was standing on the back porch at my parents’ house waiting to greet us. He was so excited to play with my “gulls” for the day!
How pumped are you for a holiday weekend?! Being in the office for five consecutive days was ROUGH, so I’m looking forward to some low key fun with my people this weekend. Think movie marathons, dinners on the grill, winery tours and pool days. Be safe this weekend and be sure to visit April, Natasha & Christina to link up your own Five on Friday post!
