Planning: The photograph above, while wholly unflattering and obnoxious, is precisely what I have planned for the summer. I spent the weekend laying in a lounger next to my sister while the kids played for hours in the water. I love my parents pool just as much at 36 as I did when we were twelve. It is my favorite place to be once the weather warms up and Josh doesn’t even ask about my weekend plans anymore. He did pop over and hang out with us quite a bit this past weekend and even grilled me an amazing burger on Monday, but he isn’t interested in a ten hour pool day most weekends. Enjoying: The girls being out of school. It will probably take a few weeks for us to get into a groove with schedules and routine, but I’m loving hanging out with them in the mornings before work. We are working on chore charts and applying a little structure to their lazy days at home, but they are so glad to be done with school for a few weeks! Most days they spend with my parents, but occasionally they convince their daddy to let them stay at home while he works. I love mid-day facetime messages from the girls and random photo texts from my sister and my mom. I might not get the summer off (like everyone else in my life), but I do enjoy living vicariously through them all!
Buying: If it doesn’t add to our upcoming beach vacation, then I’m not buying it right now. I put a hold on my Stitch Fix subscription (and a few others) and I’m strategically avoiding Target and TJMaxx. I don’t really need anything right now and I’m aiming to curb my impulse shopping. I did get both girls a pair of Chacos to try out for the summer. I knew they would be perfect for beach trips and bike rides alike, but I wasn’t sure about the price. I grabbed them both “like new” pairs from a local trading site with promises for brand new, girlier ones once school starts back. I still need a few things to outfit our camper and both girls could use another bathing suit, but we’ve almost wrapped up our pre-vacation shopping!
Craving: Beach food. I won’t lie, I’m very nervous about how a two week vacation will affect my regular eating habits. After making so much progress, being away for an extended time just brings on the anxiety. I’m starting a mini round of super clean eating tomorrow (Whole14 anyone?) in an effort to lose the bloat and be pretty strict with myself until we leave. Although I do plan to splurge on ice cream and our favorite restaurants, we’re planning to cook and pack lunches most days, so I’m hoping to rein it in.
Pinning: I’m still pinning lots of healthy recipes over on our shared Whole30/Paleo board. I’ve found a lot of new things to try (we’re having this for dinner tonight) and I’m looking forward to taking a few of these recipes with me on our trip!
While we’re recapping all the things, why not throw in our monthly infographic?!
