It’s mid January and that means there isn’t much going on around here. After a photo heavy few months, we’re just resting and recharging our batteries over Netflix and soup. I though since I don’t have some big event to share with you each day, that I’d update you on what we’re doing currently.
READING: I have bought stacks of books this month and I’m making it a goal for 2016 to read every day. I’m planning to share a post at the end of each month with what I’ve read and what I thought. So far this month, I finished up What Alice Forgot and I’m currently listening to After You and getting ready to read It Starts With Food.
LISTENING: You guys know I love music and we’re always adding new things to our playlists. I watched a documentary about Kurt Cobain over the holidays, so I’ve been listening to a little Nirvana when my kids don’t complain. I’m also loving Leon Bridges and I’m brushing up on my Mumford & Sons catalog since we’ll be seeing them again in the spring.
WATCHING: While regular TV is on hiatus, we’re catching up on Netflix and Amazon Prime and Hulu. Anyone? I watched all of Making a Murderer in three days during our break. We re-watched the first season of Marco Polo on Netflix, I finished up the final season of The Wire (OMG this is one of my favorites ever) and I’m currently watching Felicity on Hulu. I have exactly 30 days to squeeze in 84 episodes so that I cancel before my trial expires. Clearly, I have a problem.
TRYING: To broaden my horizons when it comes to food. I’ve added some new recipes to the repertoire this month and I’m trying not to be so skeptical of new vegetables.
EATING: All things whole and clean. You can read more about that here and here, or follow along on Instagram here (@livewhole365).
CALLING: After a few quiet months at the office, things are starting to pick up for me big time. That’s pretty typical of my field — things slow down around the holidays and then winter and spring bring me all the work. I think I’ve spent most every day since the new year on the phone.
TEXTING: Jennifer and I are in almost constant communication these days. I’m probably driving her crazy, but it’s so easy to stay motivated and encouraged about healthy eating when you have a partner! The girls both got iPads over the holiday (Sophie snagged one from Santa and Ella bought herself one with leftover birthday money), so they are texting queens. We have limited the list of numbers in their contacts, but I must admit to loving random messages from those two in the afternoons while I’m still working.
PINNING: Pinterest is pretty much devoted to recipes these days. I’m trying to pin as many delicious things in advance so that I don’t struggle with meal planning and so that we don’t eat the same four meals for an entire year. Jennifer and I created a joint pin board with lots of yummy, Whole30 approved meals, here.
CRAFTING: My crafting has slowed down a bit, although thanks to some super sweet friends, I’ve gotten a few Happy Mail packages in the last several weeks. Paired with a new planner and a massive date stamp via Studio Calico, I can’t wait to get back into a daily routine with my Bible. I’m also planning a super sweet craft with the girls while we’re out of school on Monday, so stay tuned for that!
DOING: I’ve been spending lots of time focusing on the blog this month. In case you haven’t heard, it’s getting a huge makeover and moving to WordPress later this month. I am super anxious, but so far the graphics all look great and my web developer is AMAZING (hi, Stephanie!). I’ll be sure to share all the dirty details once we are officially up and running (hopefully by the end of the month).
GOING: We’ve got circus tickets for later this month, but otherwise we’re spending January at home. Can we just talk about how amazing that sounds?!
LOVING: I am loving everyone’s New Year’s posts. How to plan, how to eat, how to live, how to dress. Just keep them coming, please.
HATING: The worst part of January is getting out of bed in the mornings. After two full weeks at home under a warm blanket with my people, it is near impossible to leave the house every day. I’m sure I come off as super needy, but I just miss them after having been with them so much over the holidays! The later start to my days is certainly helping, but I’m already looking forward to Spring Break!
ENJOYING: I am definitely enjoying how great I feel these days. After 13 days, I can already tell a huge difference in my sleep patterns, my energy level and my appetite. I haven’t had any major cravings (even with Josh drank a soft drink in front of me on Monday) and I have been so encouraged by friends and family who are joining in.
HOPING: That Sophie is feeling like herself again soon. We had another abdominal migraine sweep in early this week, so she’s been pretty lethargic and weepy. She slept through most of the game on Monday night and missed school on Tuesday, so I am hoping she enjoys today and can stay awake for more than a few hours at a time.
CELEBRATING: Pretty much the entire state of Alabama is in celebration mode this week. I swear everyone I know has worn red and houndstooth all week long. Monday’s game was hard-fought and stressful, but we loved cheering on our team again with a great group of friends and family. It’s hard to believe it will be eight months before we do that again.
DREADING: I’m dreading the paperwork of taxes. I hate gathering all of that together and since I have to gather blog-related stuff this year, I just kind of want to dig a hole and not come out until may. Anybody with me?
CONSIDERING: A few new regular post ideas. Is there anything you want to know or anything you’d like to have me share more regularly? Keeping a blog calendar last year was a game changer, but I’m trying to be even more thoughtful this year!
FINISHING: We are racing to finish up all of our housework today and hoping Christmas is fully packed by the weekend. Our house officially goes on the market this week and we are hoping and praying it’s a quick sale!
BUYING: We aren’t buying too much around here. After all that Christmas shopping last month, I think our budget needs a break. Nobody needs new clothes or shoes, so with the exception of a birthday gift for our Sweet Daddy, we’re sticking with groceries only this month.
WEARING: I am finally getting to wear the warm and snuggly clothes that I love so much. December was unseasonably warm and I was so tired of wearing short sleeves and repeating my few fall outfits that weren’t too much for the weather. We have spent the last week in the forties (with a few dips into the twenties), so sweaters and scarves are finally on the regular. Yay, Winter!
