It’s a rare Thursday post, but I have something else planned for tomorrow. It’s been awhile since I did one of these posts and thought you might like to know all the little things that are going on in our house right now. I guess you could call this a “coffee date”, but I’m actually drinking sweet tea right now. I love a good cup of coffee on a December Saturday morning, but I don’t usually make it on a regular basis. Is that weird? What’s even weirder is that Josh HATES the way coffee smells. I digress.
READING: Books are still slow-going for me right now. I’m about a fourth of the way through A Feast for Crows by George R.R. Martin. No, I didn’t read the first three books {please don’t yell at me}, but it’s because I was late to the GoT party. I know it will take forever to read them and I’m afraid I can’t read and watch the same characters in different time periods and plot lines. I started this when we were in between seasons and the 900 pages are taking quite a bit of time to digest. Does anybody else despise Cersei!? Josh and I went to the bookstore last weekend and I picked up a few books that I can hold in my hand. They are currently stacked on my bedside table, but I can’t wait to dig into them next!
LISTENING: My listening hasn’t changed too much. I fluctuate between the Grateful Dead channel and The Message on Sirius/XM when I’m in the car, but occasionally will listen to Spotify playlists depending on my mood. Houndmouth’s new album is still on heavy rotation and I’ve been listening to the new Mumford & Sons songs for a few weeks. We are in the middle of a hot and heavy debate about M&S at our house since this album is so different from the previous two. Anybody else want to join that conversation? Also, Lord Huron. Because my husband likes sending me random YouTube videos to watch and now I’m obsessed.
WATCHING: Game of Thrones, obvs. Also, the final episodes of Mad Men. WHY can’t Don seem to get a girl and keep her? What is with the constant skirt chasing? I love Peggy and hope that she is happy by the end of this season. I can’t stand Peter’s haircut and I miss hearing Trudy say his name. Stan needs a haircut and a more generous pair of jeans. And for the love of all that is holy, when are Don and Joan going to make up? Other notables: Survivor, Scandal and Fixer Upper.
TRYING: To get my eating/exercising back on track. I swear that every time I get things under control something crazy happens. I did a 14 day sugar detox in March that rocked my world. I lost almost 8 pounds, was way less bloated and felt great. The next week was spent at the beach eating all the things. The week after that, I thought I was pregnant for seven whole days {another story for another day} and just tried not to use my brain at all. I pretty much ignored all food. Then this week I had a terrible allergy attack, couldn’t breathe out of my nose and wanted only carbs. I swear that Monday is going to be better. Really.
EATING: Why are we always talking about food? Just this week, I’ve had Chipotle {while running birthday errands on my lunch break}, Panera Bread {because Tazzie requested “Banana Bread” for her birthday}, pancakes and bacon {family night dinner to celebrate Tazzie again} and on Sunday we’ll be eating birthday food. Kill me now.
DRINKING: Water with lemon and lime. All the days.
CALLING: I spent the better part of Monday morning on the phone with our credit card company. Someone attempted to use our card at 2:38 in the morning and fortunately the charge was flagged. Then customer service representative #1 told me something wrong, so customer service representative #2 had me completely convinced that I had erroneously talked to a scammer, but it turns out all is well. Now to call all of our accounts and change the credit card number. Doesn’t that sound fun?
TEXTING: From my message screen, top to bottom –> Sister/Mother group text about all the people currently getting on our nerves. Work wife, to whom I complain about my morning commute. My cousin, Jared, who sends me screen-shots of other people’s Facebook accounts to make me laugh. Josh, who sends me memes, flirty messages and random videos of himself. Beth, who was making fun of Josh’s latest video. Jennifer, to discuss party costs that men don’t understand, infographics for Jud’s first birthday and heinous dance costumes.
PINNING: I haven’t been. Who has time for pinning these days? I do have a ton of blog posts that I need to pin at some point, but mostly I’ve been referring to Sophie’s Birthday Board while I finish up all of my projects for her party on Sunday.
CRAFTING: I had been doing lots of Bible Journaling up until the last week and should probably do a recap post for you of recent pages. Are ya’ll into that? This past week, though, has been filled with Frozen craft projects for Sophie’s birthday. We’ve transformed the party barn into a frozen forest, I’ve made fancy crowns from silver pipe cleaners and I’ve hot glued more snowflakes together than I ever expected. I’ll have posts with all the details up next week!
DOING: I cut Josh’s hair this week. I remember as a child, knowing a lady who cut her husband’s hair once {at his insistence} and not only did it look terrible, but he didn’t speak to her for a week. There were a LOT of baseball hats in his future. I vowed I would never, ever make that mistake. Well, I’ve shaved Josh’s hair with the clippers quite a few times, but he’s been growing the top out and going by a walk-in place to get it cut recently. The last several times, he’s gotten the same girl and she never does exactly what he asks. He was convinced I would do a better job, so I gave it a whirl on Tuesday night. It actually looks super cute {more-so in real life!}. How adorable is this guy?!
GOING: We don’t have any big travel plans on the horizon. We’ll be heading to the beach for ten days in early June and I cannot wait. It hasn’t been but a few weeks since we got back, but warmer weather and sunshine always makes me miss my second home. Josh will be in Philadelphia for a week next month and is planning a day trip to either DC or NYC. Either way, I’m jealous. We’re trying to sort out where we’ll travel alone this year {unless house hunting / moving / renovating derail our plans} and we’re debating between DC {he’s never been} and Chicago. Thoughts?
LOVING: Soft shorts. I have tried on a hundred pairs of denim shorts this season and CANNOT find a single pair that looks good on me. They are either way too try-hard or I look like a frumpy, early 90’s mom. I’m not okay with either. I ordered a pair of soft chambray ones this week and I’m hoping that will fill the denim gap in my wardrobe. I also ran into TJMaxx the other day and tried on several pairs of patterned soft shorts ranging from $8 to $16. SO CUTE AND COMFY. I ended up grabbing a pair of paisley ones for less than ten dollars and a navy tee to go with them.
HATING: My morning commute. On average, it takes me upwards of 90 minutes to get to work these days. If I want to be there by 7 or 7:30, I have to get up at the crack of dawn and don’t get to see the kids off in the morning. On the other hand, if I wait and leave at 6:45, it might be 9 o’clock before I get there. Somebody invent a hover-craft or something.
ENJOYING: The weather. Although it’s been a little rainy this week, spring in the south is so nice. I could live without the constant pollen inhalation, but it’s nice to be able to sit out on the porch in the afternoons while the girls play.
HOPING: That it doesn’t take months to get our income tax refund. I was a procrastinator this year and we didn’t get them filed until last week. I’m going to be on top of things next year. I’m vowing to file before the end of February if it’s the last thing I do!!
CELEBRATING: Sophie’s FIFTH birthday. She turned 5 on Tuesday and it has been such a fun week celebrating. We don’t do big birthday gifts {hello, that big party is your present}, but she adored all the craft and art supplies that we picked up for her! She and I ran birthday errands after dance on Tuesday and ate dinner out together. We’ve been working on party projects all week and we celebrated with my parents for Family Night Dinner on Wednesday. She requested pancakes and bacon for dinner and wanted a cake with no icing.
DREADING: Party clean up. Birthday parties are my love language. I will plan and organize and decorate and party all day long, but nobody loves to clean up. And when I think about the snowflakes hanging from the 16 foot barn ceiling and all the fake snow I plan on throwing around, I just want to crawl back under the covers.
CONSIDERING: What does it take for you to “unfollow” someone on Instagram? I know that is a really weird question, but sometimes I wonder why we follow one person over another. There are days when I go through my feed and remove negative people or people who only share memes or quotes and sometimes I just unfollow people because I can’t remember why I followed them in the first place. Then there are times when I notice I’ve lost 15-20 people in the span of a day and wonder what I did to turn them off. Am I too “Jesus-y”? Are they tired of seeing my lunch plate? Or are my multiple photos of the girls not what they signed up for? Am I the only one who ponders such ridiculous things?!
FINISHING: Party projects. Really, that’s all I have to talk about today.
STARTING: To run again. Seriously.
BUYING: I told you about the shorts from TJMaxx, but what if I told you I got these two pairs of earrings at Walmart for $5 each? And then, a few days later, I found three other pairs for $3 each!! I rarely even go to Walmart, much less look at their jewelry, but I randomly found these at the beach and couldn’t resist. They have all been on heavy rotation ever since. Want to know what my husband has been buying? A microphone for his computer, some new video software and a green-screen for the playroom. Apparently we are getting into the weather business <insert all the laughing faced emojis here>.
WEARING: Flats, Gap’s new Resolution Jeans, all the stripes, anything jersey knit, soft shirts and shorts, maxi dresses and concert t-shirts. Always.
What are you guys reading / eating / watching / wearing? Sound off in the comments, PLEASE!
