It’s time for the Speak Up Link Up again today (by sure to visit Amber and Annie) and I’m a little behind. It isn’t that I haven’t been thinking about how this would go, I just wasn’t prepared for March to show up so quickly! For whatever reason, I’ve been thinking that the vlog would go live AFTER my trip this weekend and I had plans for Josh to help me film a video en route. Instead, I found myself vlogging from the car again on my way into work this morning.
Several years ago, I wrote a post called “to tell you the truth” and then revisited it again a couple of years later. It’s kind of a silly idea, to be brutally honest and share some random facts about things going on in your life, but I kind of loved it and both posts got a great response. I thought since the topic this month was TRUTH that I would share something along those lines with you.
Here are my truths (a few I shared in the vlog and a few that I forgot to mention):
1. I lost February. Seriously, I blinked and it was gone. I realized this week that I never budgeted or written any checks (thank goodness all of our bills are auto-drafted) and I’m weeks behind on design orders. I’m not sure why it was such a surprise, it is only a few days shorter than other months. March is going to be the month of together.
2. I buy groceries on Sunday and then we eat out almost every single day. We went out for lunch after church last Sunday and our bill was $86. FOR LUNCH. Then we went to Sprouts and do you want to know how much my groceries were? $86. Exactly. Sprouts is saving my grocery budget for sure, but then we’ve had Zaxby’s, Chipotle and multiple CFA runs this week, so my tiny grocery bill has kind of been defeated. I have got to get better at this.
3. Sophie has been sick twice in the last ten days. She came home sick from school on Wednesday afternoon and spent the rest of the night throwing up. Do you feel me, mamas? Stomach viruses are no joke. Fortunately she was feeling better yesterday just in time to watch it rain.
4. Yes, rain. We have had two “snow days” this month and both days we got a cold rain. Weather in Alabama is always tricky, but it’s starting to border on insane. It was 75* on Wednesday and below freezing yesterday. Some northern counties did get flurries and significant amounts of ice (hello 14 car pile-up on the freeway), but we got rain. Again.
5. I let my driver’s license expire last week. No worries, I do that every four years. The last time it was renewed, it had been expired for months before I ever even noticed. Fortunately, the teller at the bank pointed it out to me on Tuesday and I got it taken care of this morning on my way to work. For what it’s worth, “fat Kristin” is on the LEFT in the video (I never count for the flipping of the video). That was me, one year after Sophie was born, with an extra 35 pounds. It was not pretty. I might not have looked glamorous this morning (hello, casual Friday), but at least I won’t be embarrassed to hand it over.
6. I saw a bag at Target on Tuesday and I talked myself out of buying it. I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it all week, so I ran in there on my way to work this morning. Isn’t that ridiculous?! I’ll have to share a picture on Instagram later, because it is crazy cute. I needed a new tote bag to carry back and forth to work, on overnight trips and on airplanes. I can justify that, right?
7. I’ve been using a new skin-care line for five days and I can already tell a difference. My face is much clearer and smoother to the touch. I’ve only forgotten to apply the evening regimen once, so I’m calling it a win.
8. My house is always a disaster. Sometimes I try to act like that is the exception to the rule, but really it isn’t. Other times I try to justify it by blaming it on our constantly shedding dog and two children, and really they are mostly responsible for it, but the truth is there are other things I care about more than a sparkling house. It isn’t DIRTY and I do pick it up and do some cleaning every weekend, but I just can’t feel bad about spending quality time with my people in lieu of deep cleaning. I hope you’ll understand when you drop by unexpected.
9. Our holiday wreaths are still hanging on the porch. Yep. In my defense, they aren’t overtly Christmas-y, just winter-y, but still they need to go. Our calendar is so full of things on the weekends, that I haven’t gotten to take them down and since I go in and out of the back door, I only remember they are still there about once a week. Now that the days will be longer, I plan to spend an afternoon next week getting them down. But don’t judge if they happen to make it back to Christmas again. Mmmmkay?
10. I’M GOING ON AN OVERNIGHT DATE WITH MY HUSBAND TOMORROW! I know I’ve said this before, but marriage is seriously the coolest. It’s like a never ending sleepover with your favorite person ever. And for the record, my favorite person ever is pretty stinking cool. We are lucky to have people volunteering to keep our girls on a regular basis for date nights, but nothing compares to an over-nighter. We’re going to see an amazing concert, eat all the things and sleep super late on Sunday. I’ll have a recap of our antics on the blog next week.
So there you have it. The truth according to Kristin.
