One of the down-sides to my crazy month of work was that the kids went on our summer vacation without us. Everything had been so up in the air for months and with my ever-changing schedule it was hard to determine if Josh & I would make it down or not. We debating him going ahead without me, but ultimately decided that he and I would do the same thing in the hopes we could travel together later in the summer. My parents decided to take the kids with them their entire two weeks, so our house was pretty quiet.
Josh decided to go down the last weekend they were there and see the girls, eat some seafood and help them pack up and bring the RV home for the rest of the summer. At the last minute, I found myself with 48 hours at home alone and decided to make the long drive to surprise them all for a few days. My mom and Josh both knew I was trying to come down, but it took a few last minute changes to make it all work. I left the office at 7 o’clock on Friday night in tears because I knew I would see them for the first time in weeks and I just couldn’t hold it together any longer. I ran errands, packed my car, cleaned the house, made arrangements for our pets and set my alarm clock for 3:30. I was on the road by 3:48 and my mom had already called to check on me before 4 a.m.! Armed with coffee and Krispy Kreme, I was sitting outside enjoying breakfast with my mom before 8 o’clock that morning.
I wasn’t sure what the girls’ reactions would be when they saw me, but Ella tackled me on the picnic table and Sophie did quite the little jig when I went inside the trailer to wake her up. We didn’t have much time to squeeze it all in and I still missed out on the outlet mall and Scoops, but considering all that I was able to do and see with the girls and Josh, it was a pretty successful mini-vacay.
After snuggles & KK for breakfast, I got to look at all their treasures from the past few weeks!
I love this picture of E. She got so brave in the water this year and was killing it on the boogie board!
We had to do a little gator gazing on Lake Shelby before dinner.
Of course, Sophie had to act a little shy at dinner. Ha!
She even made a new friend and invited her to dance.
Which was followed pretty closely by a nap on top of Sweet Daddy.
It might not have been the ten days I’m accustomed to, but it might was one of the sweetest vacations I’ve taken in a long time. I was in serious need of face time with my people and when I say it did my soul good to see them all sitting in the sand, I’m not sure that even does it justice. I would drive that 5 hour drive every day in exchange for those two days of fun. I did miss it, though. So much so that I’ve already booked us for 14 days next summer. I decided to make up for my short stay this year! Until next time, GS.
