I am so ready for some holiday cheer around here. I know I’m beginning to sound like a record skipping, but the last few months for us have been full. And not full of things we love, but full of work and travel and stress. I’m wishing I wasn’t working on this Wednesday, while I know my littles and my husband are snuggled up together at home. After taking a half day on Monday AND Tuesday for nasty dental work, I pretty much had to be strapped to my desk today. But tomorrow. Tomorrow I get to wake up slow and eat pigs in a blanket and drink a strong cup of coffee. I get to be greeted by a Tasmanian devil with bed head and a too-big grin. I get to watch the Thanksgiving Day parade with Ella while our sweet daddy scoffs (why don’t men other than my daddy enjoy the parade?!). I get to make Josh’s grandmother’s dressing and macaroni & cheese and a derby pie. I’ll dress up because I want to be festive, but later I’ll complain that I’m not wearing stretchy pants. Mostly, I’ll get to spend my second favorite day of the year with some of the greatest people I know.
I took these photographs earlier in the season on a Saturday afternoon spent watching football around a fire at my uncle’s house (where we’ll be feasting tomorrow). He has a barn behind his house where we love to gather and watch football. I don’t know why I haven’t posted these yet, but I hope we have as much fun sharing the next few days with our family as we did this day. And I hope we’re just as happy with this weekend’s game!
The affectionately referred to “Swamp Donkey Lodge” with it’s faithful mascot, Bastogne.
My plan is to be back for 5 on Friday in a few days. But just in case I’m still in a food coma or at IHOP with the family or decorating my Christmas tree – I hope your Thanksgiving was WONDERFUL and that you have a fantastic holiday weekend with your people. And that we all get to sing Rammer Jammer on Saturday evening! Roll Tide, friends.
