It’s that time again!! I am seriously falling in love with 5 on Fridays. I’ve been thinking all week about what I can share with you. I’m sorry I get so long-winded, but it’s like 5 blog posts all wrapped up in one. Indulge me.
1. Family pictures. My mom has been begging us to snap some pictures of the grandkids all together since Hudson was born in July. You would think since we all live on the same street and my sister is a photographer that this would be easy to achieve. Notsomuch. She also wanted to take a family photo with the newest addition for her Christmas cards. I got so overwhelmed with design orders last year that my mom never got a Christmas card (#daughterfail), so I promised to have hers all wrapped up before I started taking orders in mid-October. I haven’t seen the finished products just yet, but I did manage to snap a few photos with my phone.
2. Half-marathon training. I ran my first half-marathon last February and it’s almost time to start training for next year! My training plan starts on October 1st, but since I had only run once this month, I decided to incorporate a few shorter runs this week to prepare myself. On Monday, I got up to run at 5 and realized IT IS DARK OUTSIDE. I went ahead and turned out 3 miles, but Josh was not happy with me at all for running on the road in the dark. Starting on Tuesday, I still got up at 5, but I decided to get the 45 minute commute out of the way first. After packing lunches and laying out clothes, I drove to work and got downtown just in time for sunrise. I laced up and ran 4 miles before getting ready for work at the gym. Not only did I have time to run farther, but I didn’t have to worry about the nasty rush-hour traffic and still managed to be at work on time! Rinse and repeat for Wednesday, Thursday & Friday.
3. The Sleep Cycle Alarm app. How did I not know about this?! On Sunday evening I was telling Josh to kick me out of bed when our alarm went off the next morning, because I really wanted to run. I am not a morning person and sometimes I forget that I set the alarm early for a reason — I’ll just keep hitting snooze until I’m forced to get ready for work, but then I’m mad at myself for missing a good morning workout. He told me about this app and for $1.99, I was sold. In a nutshell, the thing detects when you’re in a deep sleep versus a light sleep and wakes you up at the most optimum time within a 30 minute window. Amazeballs.
4. Budgeting. Josh called a mandatory budget meeting this week and man, are those things painful. It’s clear that we spend the largest portion of our expendable income on food and that is just ridiculous. We’re working to pay a few things off (goodbye, student loans), preparing to buy a car sometime next year and thinking about our long-term goal of building a house. Give me your best budgeting advice. GO!
5. JOHN MAYER. You’re wondering HOW many times a married mother of two can gush about a rock star, right? I promise this is the last time for at least 48 more hours… maybe. When Josh took me to see him in Tuscaloosa back in the spring, Ella was a little put out with us. She likes to pretend she doesn’t like listening to Mayer in the car, but she was anything but thrilled when we went without her. He was releasing his summer tour dates soon after, so I promised her if he came to Birmingham I would take her. Well, he skipped us this time around since he played in T-town, but he was coming to Atlanta and our sweet daddy caved. We bought her a ticket for her birthday and she has been counting down the days. She convinced me to buy her a new outfit for the show (just like a woman!? take me to the Gap, momma!) and I’m checking her out at lunch today so we have time to straighten her hair before the two hour drive. I know, she’s 7 going on 16.
