A few weeks ago, the girls had a birthday party at the zoo and I convinced my dad to tag along for the day. We have an amazing zoo, birthday parties there are fantastic AND you get a free day at the zoo out of the deal. First up, a photo with the birthday boy, James. Please ignore Ella’s awkward face/smile. There is a lot of that in this post… she had a very loose tooth on the top that was moments away from falling out and she couldn’t do much with her mouth. She’s barely eaten, brushed her teeth or smiled, but was far too anxious to pull it. That is another story for another day!
Part of the birthday experience at the Birmingham Zoo is getting to pet some animals. I don’t remember what all we saw, but the girls did get to pet this snake and a ferret. Sophie wasn’t shy at all!
Next up was the temporary Dinosaur exhibit. There are massive dinosaurs of all types along the boardwalk and they move and make noises! A few even spit water at you and we wound up getting a little wet.
Then we rode the carousel,
and the The Red Diamond Express.
After the party festivities, the girls wanted to walk around Africa and see a few of their favorite animals. We spotted elephants, zebras and giraffes.
THEN, you know, just for the heck of it (and $10), my girls decided to ride a camel. Ella was a little anxious, but Sophie was just anxious to get on and go! She giggled the whole way around and still talks about that bumpy ride.
On our way out, we spotted these pretty flamingos posing in the water.
And another pretty bird showing off! The peacocks are hardly ever displaying their feathers when we visit, so the girls were excited to see this guy. He was preening right in front of the sidewalk for everyone to see! Isn’t he gorgeous?
