When last we left off (over a month ago – yikes!) Ella had a tooth that was dangling by the root. I swear, Josh & I had been convinced for weeks that it was going to fall out, but it hung on. It was laying on it’s side and we had begged Ella to let us pull it, but she wouldn’t even consider it. Every night after dinner, she wiggled it for show and we talked about pulling it. Every night she would go to bed with that tooth hanging on for dear life.
One day, I told her that she had a dentist appointment in the next week and that if it wasn’t out by then that I would let the dentist pull it. Her eyes got really wide, but we didn’t really make any progress. On a Thursday night, she went with her daddy to her cousin Molly’s house and about 30 minutes after they left, I got a picture of her bloody mouth. She just stuck her hand in her mouth and came out with the tooth!
I know this picture isn’t for the faint of heart, but here lies the infamous first tooth! She was so proud and couldn’t wait to put it under her pillow. WHAT?!?! Whoever came up with that jig obviously didn’t have two girls who shared a room and were known for waking at the sound of a feather falling. I was a nervous wreck, but managed to convince her to leave the tooth here instead. You know… where the tooth fairy wouldn’t disturb her beauty rest.
Wouldn’t you know that bright and early, or dark and early depending on where you celebrate 5 a.m., she came padding into our room. She just new there was something to find and she couldn’t sleep until we checked it out! Lucky her, we found a nice little stash. A new toothbrush, dollars covered in fairy dust and a tiny little note from the fairy herself!
Not only was she thrilled to tell her teacher and her friends the next day, but one week later she got to visit the dentist and tell her all about it! Although Ella has been to the dentist before, the pediatric dentist didn’t accept our insurance and to say it was out of our budget is putting it mildly. We decided to let her try our family dentist before looking for somewhere else to try and thank goodness, she loved Dr. Sligh.
She was a little nervous, but she put on her brave face and acted like such a champ! Her favorite part was Mister Slurpy. She sucked spit and water out of her mouth so often that the dental hygienist could barely clean her teeth.
How is she old enough to be a snaggle tooth already? And guess what? There another loose one ready to wiggle its way out!
And for those of you who are interested, it’s pretty easy to cover your dollars with fairy dust! Just give them a good coat of Elmer’s Spray Adhesive and sprinkle on your favorite glitter. The tooth fairy that visits our house used cheap, plastic, iridescent glitter, and it was perfect. I’m not sure that these dollars will spend, but we put them up as a keepsake anyway.
