We went to a pretty terrific birthday celebration for our sweet friend Preston early last month and I haven’t shared the photographs with you yet! Preston just turned one and is a little boy who stays with Sophie during the week. His big sister Madeline is a friend of Ella’s and his mom, Michelle, did a fantastic job on the party.
It was so funny listening to the little conversations going on around the tables. We still think these are “little” kids, but sometimes their conversations are so grown up!
Ella’s face cracks me up so much in the photograph — she was smirking at me — and is pretty typical of her these days.
I cannot believe I didn’t get a close up of the table! Michelle did such a great job and the spread was divided into two categories of food — herbivores and carnivores. How clever! On the left were veggies, fruit and dip and on the right were dino-shaped chicken nuggets and other snacks.
This is our friend, Noah, and Preston’s big sister, Madeline. How cute are those party hats? I love the dino spikes down the side! Sophie refused to wear hers for more than a few seconds at a time, but all of the big kids wore them with no complaints.
To be honest, Sophie was way more concerned with her cupcake than anything else at the party. Unlike Ella, who doesn’t like icing and almost always flips her cupcake over and eats the bottom first, Sophie LOVED the icing and pretty much devoured this entire thing with no help.
I think sometimes I worry about having an “activity” at a party to keep the kids entertained or whatever, but this moment proves that kids will literally play with the very last thing you expect. Save your money and your energy ;). They decided to make a fort out of the gift table and spent the majority of the party giggling from underneath the table cloth. Only presents managed to coax them out.
I also hate that I didn’t get a better picture of the birthday boy, but he was way too busy enjoying himself! Here he is getting a little help from his mom to open all of his gifts. Happy Birthday, P-Rex!
